I initially saw this in the cinema (thanks for the recommendation) and was shaken (being the parent of a son). My husband and I spent our entire evening discussing the content, how it affected us, and what we would do in similar situations. I felt compelled to then subscribe to National Theatre at Home to show friends and family as a thought-provoking play that starts important conversations. 🇦🇺

I saw it with some friends and most of us felt physically sick afterwards. Even as the stage opens up into the black hole of the playground, we all felt so claustrophobic. I remember feeling my heart rate spike and my hands start shaking, like I was starting to panic. It was deeply, deeply moving for all of us, and no one was able to talk about it for a few hours.

Oh I didn’t even realize her son and husband were the ones playing the drums and guitar!

Cannot wait to see this on Broadway this year!!!

I watched this at the national theatre last August and it was genuinely one of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm so glad it got the west end transfer and Rosamund Pike won the Olivier!

I saw this a couple of weeks ago for the first time and had a similar reaction to your first viewing by the sounds of it (no photos, just applause, Leslie). However, I didn't the main conflict as between her roles as a judge and as a mother - her being a judge is just one reflection of her feminist views, values and overall morality. The quote that stuck with me from the climax was like "as a woman, I'm glad you want to take responsibility for this, but as your mother, I can't let you" - I think those are the two core aspects of her identity which clash head on by the end.

This play is so good

Did you see any differences between the west end version and the one at the National theatre? I saw both and had the feeling it was a little more rushed at the west end which made it harder to catch on to the scene changes. Still absolutely brilliant though!

Isn’t that kind of what you do when you describe the plot of shows with all your bears and stuffed animals?

It sounds very layered and sad….i wonder if considering everything the country is  going through …if its going to be something audiences are going to want to experience. I for one already feel like im getting beyond my capacity for awfulness with the news and more sadness than i can process

Am I the only one that was surprised/ disappointed how the show ended?

It was quite meh, honestly. Not enough plot at all for 1 hour and 40 minutes. So much useless filler scenes without rhyme or reason.

Thanks for doing this.  Great job finding more amazing details.  I watched it on National Theatre at Home because of your first review.  In fact I subscribed to NTaH because of that review.  Now I will rewatch it on NTaH based on your additional comments.  I did not pick up on the clothing and some of the prop use so thanks for highlighting those.

When I was watching it, I did pick up on the foreshadowing of the likely events at the party.  That said, I flip flopped a bit because of how innocent she made him out to be.  After the computer content was revealed, I knew it was game over on what actually happened.  The scene about changing times is very powerful, thought provoking, and kind of sad.

I saw Jody Comer in Prima Facie on Broadway, and will definitely see if I can watch Inter Alia when it is on Broadway.
