I adore this game. Its so difficult but absolutely nails the theme, so much so that it makes losing fun.

I remember playing my first game against Geppetto at the Carnival. He killed one victim, then the 3 others panicked, ran in different directions and ran straight into traps killing themselves. I've never laughed out loud at a board game before but it was on point for a cheesy horror film and just hilarious to see.

Also, great explanation on the rules. Easy to follow and entertaining too!

I love this game...it creates a thematic setting that is hard not to feel immersed in. The scenes that play out make you feel you are in this horror movie, which is just so much fun. Alot of it is based on luck (rolling dice; you have to kind of pre empt what may happen when you are in the planning phase)- but thats kinda like in the movies, right? The final girl relies on a bit of luck to beat the enemy in the movies...so too in this game. Having said that, there are strategies that can be used to increase your chance of winning...but this is a game where winning shouldn't be the focus (think of Arkham Horror, maybe?)...it's about the experience ...and if you do win, it feels all that sweeter...:p

This is a great primer on how to play the game. Kudos, man!

Fantastic video! This may be the best Final Girl tutorial on YT. Thank you!

Your video popped up on my feed and I loved your personality and humor!  I’m a huge fan of solo board games and I can confirm you do a phenomenal job with your videos.  Next time I upload a video, I’ll give your channel a shout-out.  Great job!

I've played two games now ... and you are SO right about those dice!

Great Video.  I Enjoy this game, except for the one time I decided to take shots every time a meeple or I was taken out.  I still don't know how or why I woke up in the tub.

Great video!

Kick ass vid, man!!!!  Keep email comin. Looking forward to season four!!!!

Super helpful! Thanks!

That last fact was truly horrifying!

😂❤

Great video. Regardless oof how often lose ai enjoy it.

Just finished my first game. Both me and the killer had one hp left. I'm playing furious strike, rolling 5 dice, get zero successes, hit myself and die. You were underselling how mean those dice were!

I watched this video three times before I played my first two games of Final Girl. I even used the Happy trails horror feature. I like how you format your videos. It's easy to follow

I love the theme of this game, but don’t know how I feel about it otherwise. When you loose, you loose and often. When you win, it feels like luck and isn’t satisfying.

I am one hundred percent certain that the dice in this game are cursed!!! The only time I have beaten the game is when I have played it without using the dice that came with the game!

Thanks for a great overview, GN! I love this game, appreciate its thematic immersion, elegant design, and difficulty. I'm just confused and a bit disappointed they didn't include a Starter Mode to get people up to speed on how to play and master the game. I see so many comments and threads from those that bounce hard off the game as presented and many never return.

That's a weird business decision to me, to make a game with such a punishing learning curve it gets a reputation and diminishes your customer base. A simple "for your first few games, do the following and then as you get the hang of it, switch to the regular rules" would go a long way to retaining many players. Example: spend one card (instead of two) to convert a 3 or 4 result into a success. That would have been so easy to include in the base game rules!

I've played with this simple recommendation (picked up on BGG threads) and it has made a huge difference in my enjoyment of the game. It's still tough but no longer brutal. (And how many final girl movies have the killer slaughter everyone and then roll the credits? It's strangely anti-thematic to design the game so that this is the likely outcome, IMO.) Frustrating and overwhelming new players who haven't figured out the game yet is a lose-lose proposition.

There will be those that will want to say, "Yeah man, that's the way AJ & Co wanted it, to be tough and intense and reward tenacity, and any players that lose just need to git gud." I am aware of this perspective so save your virtual breath. That may very well be true, and if so, it is a sub-optimal business decision to get the most customers buying, playing, and enjoying your game. Maybe they're happy with the returns on serving a smaller niche of the player base... but people actively and vocally hate this wonderful game. Was that part of the business plan?

Ultimately it may not matter, given how Final Girl has recently cracked the BGG top 100 (celebrate emoji here) and it has a dedicated fan base (including me). But how much faster and how much higher might it have climbed if so many otherwise enthusiastic players hadn't been mercilessly crushed by their first few plays?

Help!! I made eye contact with the dice and may have thrown an insult or two at them. They're after me.

(side note: great detailed explanation of how to play!)

This is a game I definitely enjoy more for the theme than the gameplay itself. I just wish setup were a bit quicker — it would hit the table more often than it does.
