This is an overlooked masterpiece. Peter O'Toole is an amazing actor.

I've got it on DVD, but people, if you haven't seen this gem...you're in for a ride! Irreverent, edgy, dark, satirical, sometimes even sweet...the story of a man who has been self-institutionalized and believes he's Christ, suddenly finds himself in the potential position of being made an Earl in the House of Parliament. O'Toole at his manic best!

Peter otoole is one of the best actors of all time. It’s blasphemous that he never won an Oscar.

"How do you know you're God?" ... "I found that in prayer I was talking to myself."

I can't believe that I have never heard of this movie before. Peter O'Toole, Arthur Lowe, and Alastair Sim are great actors.

I saw Peter O'Toole live in the theatre. He had the most beautiful speaking voice I have ever heard...

Saw this when I was thirteen. Had a huge effect on me. Class system, ideologies, good versus evil. Was he really mad when he was good? Was he really good when he was normal? Opened up worlds for me. I became a teacher.

I have never seen or heard of this brilliant gem before. It has now become one of my favourite films of all time. I can see where Vyvian Stanshall got his inspiration for Sir Henry at Rawlinsons End from now. Sublime English eccentricity.

Always loved this since seeing first in 1972. 5-star performances. Very left-field!

I saw this film sometime in the early 80s in Hungary (I live there), and I still remember the impact it had on me. It's a serious satire. It was stronger than the Michael Rimmer film. And that was good too.

Nursie never changed in all the time between this film and Blackadder.

I was amazed by this movie when I first saw it years ago. I'm glad to see renewed interest in it. O'Toole is comically brilliant in the first half, then darkly brilliant in the second. The ending is somewhat disturbing, perhaps a hard watch for some folks, but I believe that this film remains a great critique of classism and hypocrisy and clinging to foolish rituals of days gone by. Thumbs up!

I had heard of this in cinephile chatter, but never seen it. So glad to have found it and thanks for uploading.

I last watched this on BBC TV in the 1970s when I was a teenager, it had a big impact on me at the time but I do remember a few scenes cut from this YouTube offering like Jack announcing that he was no longer the god of love but had become the god of fire and brimstone, there was also a scene in the pub where a couple are celebrating their wedding reception and Jack turns up to resurrect his medieval droit du seigneur and rides off with the bride. Great to watch this again after all these years and remember that back then the house of Lords really was dominated by hereditary peers, not sure non UK watchers will understand the political significance of this film .
