This is why I keep my '97 Crown Vic until the engine blows. Its built solid and tough!
I'm 52 and never had a car payment.. I refuse to pay for plastic junk

If your dealership is taking weeks to fix your car while you're still making payments, call your state Consumer Protection Agency and file a report against the dealership. That will light a fire under their asses. That's what consumer protection is there for.

I worked for gmc in 2022-2023 as a tech, i was also in gm as a tech for 8 years total. Gmc was selling a 1500 pick up truck for 108k, and at 35k miles it would need a new camshaft... absolutely disgusting

I had no idea how diverse of a skill set a car mechanic needs to have now.
The hardware is so tightly packed in now, for a simple operations you need to disassemble the whole front, not even talking about the software and it's challenges.
Probably would've studied that field had I known.

You are witnessing the most physical effects of late stage capitalism. Lower quality, cheaper manufacturing, low reliability, high cost. This is exactly what a company dreams of in profitability. These things happen when companies don’t have consequences for bad practices.

My son's dodge hemi was running really bad. He took it to the dealer, and they said he needed a new motor (broke valve spring).I told him to let me try to fix it first. We spent 5 hours tearing it down, and it cost $4 for a new spring. 5 hours to put it back together, but it saved him $27k. FOR A $4 PART

EVEN IN A SMALL CRASH; your front or rear bumper collision lets say, gets hit, then your computer chips and sensors and wires gets destroyed. Your vehicle is still drivable but the computer restricts the driver from operating it. Insurance calls it totaled now. Stay away from these newer P.O.S. vehicles, don't over pay for trash-bin material on wheels.

We paid cash for a 2025 Honda CR-V, brought it home only to have coolant leak 4 months after purchasing a BRAND NEW CAR 😭😨

According to my grandpa, we are repeating the 1970s and early 80s for dealership scams, bad build quality, and sometimes fugly looks. He told me that he went from a reasonably reliable 68 Plymouth to a 75 Plymouth. The 75 was uglier, slower, had a horrible plastic interior, and was less efficient on fuel. We are repeating history with ugly, unreliable, cheap crap that isn't even more efficient than what we had 6 or 7 years ago.

If car manufacturer executives were forced to commute an hour or more back and forth from work in the very cars that they make and sell every working day and even longer on weekends, I bet the designs would improve.

All those electronics have one thing in common. They do not like heat cycles, humidity, and vibrations. All of which are present in every car on the road.

In 2005, I bought a brand new Hyundai Accent for $12k. You can’t buy cars like that anymore—they’ve stopped making the economy/budget type cars like that and you definitely can’t find something like that for that cheap anymore. They’ve completely eliminated that category of car.

I love this technological backfiring so much. My car uses a real actual key, with a manual transmission, manual locks, manual crank windows, manual seats, manual turn signals, no cruise control, no lane assist, no digital anything, no screens, literally analog everything, no heat (broke, but I'm in FL), no AC (I never used AC anyway), and best of all... No check engine lights and the car still runs like a top. It's almost 27 years old and almost a quarter million miles. 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage DE. Very easy to work on, YouTube is my #1 resource, $0 monthly payments, insurance is $42 a month, gas is almost 40 mpg, cruising on Easy Street over here, rockin' the 90s.
