I just got BRICK device (thanks to you Zoe!!) and put an everyday block on for my banks so when I’m in the shops I can’t transfer myself cash to buy impulse purchases I now go in with a list and the amount I believe it to add up too. I also took out all of my spending allowance in cash and keep what I don’t think it will come to in a safe place. I aim to save the total I would normally spend and put it straight into savings and investments.

ITS LIFE CHANGING! No more impulse shopping.

You should annualize your budgets to evaluate cashflow. Sometimes we have months of overspend but perhaps on a 12 month basis you’re still meeting your goals. Keep it up!

You’ve come so far I hope you can feel proud of yourself amidst the stress which is so valid too! Mtl girlie here too and the housing market feels impossible even for my friends who make 100k+ with partners who make even more, I think a lot of the stress comes from how overwhelming it is beyond the purchase of the house too. It’s great you and JS had a deep convo about your feelings around money, as you say worrying doesn’t get us anywhere!

Zoe, I love this new perspective about not worrying and making plans to help stick to your budget! I think a nice way to think of it when your bills end up being more expensive than you expected, is to look them over at the end of the month, and make note of the areas of greater expense, but then also just be proud of the fact that you got yourself into a financial space where you can afford to go over (within reason) and that you are living a beautiful life that you love, so it’s all worth it. I’ve had to make that shift when starting a family and buying our home. I used to feel so much freedom to buy whatever I want, and still contribute to our nest egg and always be able to pay bills, but now we have to be way tighter with our budget because of all the billzzz that come with being homeowners 😅 But I choose to see it as being totally worth it because I am living in a home that I love with my husband and son. I feel like you are well on your way to having that mentality yourself, and I can’t wait to watch as you start budgeting for a family, because I think you’re ready for it 🥰

Can you talk more about the dividend income from YouTube? Just genuinely curious if it was a pot of YouTube money that you currently pay yourself from every month, or how it’s consistent? How did you divide that and get that number to pay yourself? I would love to see how you came up with that system to pay yourself from as an employee and what to keep “in the business”

Forever money worrier here :/
I received a decent inheritance a couple of years ago, if I'm honest I have been expecting this inheritance for a long long time. When i got it absolutely nothing changed with my money worries. They became worse really, trying to grab onto in or repay any that has been spent. I have no idea how I managed paycheck to paycheck but I was genuinely less stressed than now, I'm trying to improve!

Hi Zoey! I use my cash envelopes but with prop money. My money stays in my bank account. I have the ability to do buckets so I separate by binder. If I have $100 in gas, I pay with my credit card. Then I go to my binder and update my tracker and my “cash”. Digitally I move my spent gas money into another bucket labeled “credit card” to pay off at the end of the month.

I hope this makes sense. It saves me time from going to the bank and helps me visually see “cash” as I spend it.
