Can garlic actually grow in a fish tank, or is it a disaster waiting to happen? 🧄🐟
In this video, I decided to test a viral aquarium life hack: growing garlic directly in my fish tank. I tracked the progress for 30 days to see if the garlic would thrive using the fish waste as natural fertilizer, and the results were absolutely SHOCKING.
Whether you're looking for a DIY aquaponics setup or just want to see if this "aquarium hack" is a myth, you won't want to miss what happened to the water parameters and the plant growth by day 30.

Shrimp and garlic you say? 🤤

Garlic and onions also need a dormancy period in order to grow properly. This method will give you unlimited greens to eat for a while, but they will eventually die off without that winter dormancy.

Refreshing to see a simple clear honest video without an annoying ai voice

I really want to say: in a world full of over-complication, this video, kept to a mere voice and a walkthrough with minimal editing, was one of the most captivating things I've seen in a long time. Best of luck to you, your life and pursuing any passions you have and or may have in the future!

As someone who grows onions and garlic indoors, you can pop them in the fridge to synthesize a winter condition for proper growth and allowing reproduction.

I recently gave up fishkeeping after almost 60 years in the hobby, but I found this extremely interesting.

I did this with a sweet potato and the roots absolutely consumed a ten gallon and my betta loved it

Garlic shoots are great in chinese cooking. So you could just endlessly cut them and eat the shoots

You can still make use of the green growth in the kitchen. The green part of the garlic is like a mix between garlic and spring onion. So definitely not a waste.

If you are going to keep growing the garlic, when you want some, just trim the green part, and eat that. The bulbs can last years, producing more green over time. My Grandfather had a garlic patch he never dug up, just mowed it twice a year, and harvested it for more than 40 years.

You can do that with Mary Jane too, plants love fish water

FYI. If you try this in Australia. You need to use Australian grown garlic. Chinese garlic etc have the root bases on them removed 👍😎

My roommate set up a 40 gal tank and we're putting plants in it. It's got pothos, monstera and lucky bamboo now. My bonsai wire makes awesome hangers for cuttings and they root in the water pretty quick. It's going to look awesome once everything's bigger and more mature.

I thought this was an anti-fungal experiment at first but this is cool too. (Garlic is said to help with ick but like many things in this hobby its mythy)

What a great experiment. This kind of begs the question, could a strategic garlic bulb or two help keep aquariums clean? How much life in tank to garlic would be the golden ratio to see how little garlic would be needed to keep the tank clean?

I put a couple cloves of garlic in my aquarium the other day. Less then 24hrs. There were a bunch of roots and green buds on top already. Then again, garlic would do that right on the counter.
