Ogikubo, a town along the Chuo Line, has a completely different atmosphere on the south and north sides of the station.
The south side of the station, which was used as a vacation home area from the late Taisho period to the early Showa period, is still a quiet, upscale residential area today.
Meanwhile, the north side, home to a Don Quijote, karaoke, and pachinko parlors in front of the station, is an area that developed from the postwar black market.
