In village churches, quiet and small, Where painted pipes and sunlight fall, You sit, Ben, with a humble grace, And fill the stones with warm embrace.
From Wiltshire lanes to distant lands, Your music lifts with gentle hands; An Oregon vet, a Melbourne noon, Finds solace in your Sunday tune.
You play the hills where green songs lie, And summon tears we can’t deny; A schoolboy’s hymn, a mother’s prayer, Awake again, still singing there.
Unique in truth — not “very” so — But rare as fresias’ first spring glow; You teach, you guide, you let us see, The soul behind each melody.
Each note a thread of memory spun, Of laughter shared, of battles won; Of castles, chapels, hearts set free — You outweigh sorrow’s gravity.
So let the organ thunder, mild or grand, Through little churches across the land; For in your joy the world takes part — Solid gold, Ben, you play our heart.
Your strolls in the beautiful English countryside are so beautiful and soothing. Thank you so much for freeing the confined spirit of a housebound old woman.
If there is a more delightful YouTube channel than this, I am helpless to find it. This man is solid gold Thank you for outweighing the sorrowful evils of our planet.
I majored in music while in college some 45 years ago, with piano as my instrument. I took Hymnody and Organ classes. I’ve only been watching/listening to you for only a few months, yet I’ve learned more from you about both hymnody and organ than I did in my college classes! You are indeed, a blessing! Thank you so very much!
For our retirement, we had planned to visit as many churches as possible in the UK. Sadly, my husband has become too ill to travel at all, and our retirement is home centred. Your videos mean I can travel vicariously through you! God is good! He is with us throughout our troubles and always finds a way to bless us. Thank you for visiting these quaint churches for us. X
Definitely agree with previous comment, this chap really should be on television! He presents so clearly, with humour and holds one's interest. Well done, Ben!
Each time you prepare to enter a church when you remove your cap it feels like a holy moment; a moment of reverence. For me it’s not just a history and music lesson you share but a reminder of our God and Savior who was and is worshipped in each church you visit.
You're just so charismatic, Ben. I confess that this 65 year old happily married Christian lady has quite the crush on you! You're not only sharing things that a very small niche of us enjoys learning about, but you do it in the most lovely, winsome way! I'm so glad to have found your channel.
Your historical contextualizing is ever bit as good as your musicianship. Thank you for the background to these compositions. That organ has such a beautiful sound.
Sometimes I think that all these lovely villages only exist in fairy tales. But they DO exist and they are there for everyone to be discovered. Thank you Ben Maton for showing us the beauty of England!
My father, a church choral director, has been gone for neely twenty years, but when I watch your YouTube podcasts, he is sitting beside me, full of joy and delight at your instruction and reverence for the music. Such a gift in these difficult times. Thank you so much for this communion.
Oh great - woke up to a beautiful 1st day of spring down here in the Southern Hemisphere - went downstairs to make myself a coffee, and came back to find 29 minutes of joy waiting for me. Time for a sigh of relief/relaxation for you Ben, and lovely information and entertainment for us. Thank you Ben
