A major controversy has emerged around changes made to Form 6, the application used for new voter registration, during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision exercise.
Reports said two Election Commissioners had objected to an additional declaration added to the online Form 6. The change reportedly asked new applicants about their or their family's presence in earlier electoral rolls.
The controversy then brought Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) into the discussion because TCS manages the Election Commission's ECINET digital infrastructure. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned who within the ECI ordered TCS to make the change and who approved it at TCS. These are allegations and questions of accountability, not proof that TCS or Tata Group manipulated an election.
