March 1984: 25-year-old Bernie Williams is found tied up and shot on a remote track outside Bullengarook, Victoria. He was a ruckman for the Melton Football Club — no criminal record, no enemies anyone could name.

Detectives concluded within days that he'd been restrained by more than one person; he was simply too physically strong for one man to have tied him up alone. In a town where everybody knew everybody, not one person said a word for almost four decades.

In 2022, a 62-year-old man was finally charged with Bernie Williams' murder — arrested from inside the maximum-security prison where he was already being held. Police said, the same day, that he did not act alone. The motive has never been made public, and the $1 million reward is still on the table. Somewhere out there, at least one more person knows exactly what happened on that track.
