She Was Loving It... Until The Animals... FIRST TIME WATCHING ~ SLITHER
TARA'S NEVER SEEN!!

*Tara's first time watching *Slither (2006)!**
Before *Guardians of the Galaxy*, *The Suicide Squad*, and Superman, James Gunn made one of the slimiest, funniest, and most gloriously disgusting horror-comedies of the 2000s.
Kevin has always loved this cult classic and can clearly see the beginnings of the filmmaker James Gunn would become. We talk about the incredible practical effects, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Banks, the movie's Troma roots, and why it still stands as one of the best horror-comedies of its era.
Unfortunately, this one also hit one of Tara's biggest movie dealbreakers. Once the animals started disappearing, it became tough for her to fully enjoy the rest of the film. We never fake our reactions, and this episode is a perfect example of why this channel exists—sometimes we love the same movie, and sometimes we don't.

The sheriff is played by Nathan Fillon
He's in Firefly,Castle and The Rookie
James Gunn's fingerprints are everywhere. The rapid-fire dialogue, the offbeat humor, the weirdly lovable characters, the perfectly chosen music cues, and that uncanny ability to balance genuine horror with comedy without either one stepping on the other. It doesn't feel like an early film from a future superstar—it feels like the blueprint for everything that came after.
I've always loved Slither.
It's gross. Spectacularly gross. Body horror usually isn't my thing, but this movie is so creative and self-aware that I can't help but admire it. The practical effects still look fantastic, Michael Rooker is terrific as Grant Grant, Nathan Fillion is effortlessly charismatic, and Elizabeth Banks keeps the whole thing grounded just enough to make the insanity work. You can also see Gunn proudly wearing his Troma influences on his sleeve. There are cameos from Lloyd Kaufman and other familiar faces, and longtime Troma fans will catch plenty of little nods.
Now... this is where James Gunn and I part ways.
I respect what he learned there, and I respect that he still gives his old friends work.
I just don't enjoy Troma movies.
I know we get requests for The Toxic Avenger all the time, but they're simply not my thing. Every time I watch one, I feel like I need a shower afterward—and not because of the gore. There's just something about that whole world that makes me instinctively pat my back pocket to make sure my wallet's still there. That's about as nicely as I can say it.
Tara, on the other hand, was actually having a really good time... until the pets started disappearing.
If you've watched this channel for any length of time, you already know that's a dealbreaker for her. Just like The Thing, once the movie revealed the basement full of dead neighborhood pets, it completely took her out of it. She knows it's fake. She knows it's just a movie. It doesn't matter. Animal cruelty—real or fictional—is one of those things she simply doesn't enjoy watching, and once that switch flips, it's hard to win her back.
To Slither's credit, it regained a little ground before the credits rolled, but never enough to completely recover. And that's perfectly okay.
That's why this channel exists. We don't fake reactions because the internet says a movie is a masterpiece. Sometimes I love something Tara doesn't. Sometimes it's the other way around. That's the fun of watching movies together.
For me, Slither is still one of the best horror-comedies of the 2000s. It deserved far better than its box office, and over the years it's become the cult classic it was always meant to be.

Starlord's grandpa is hilarious in Slither.
