When I left the United States, I didn't just feel free. I felt grief. Grief for the ones who couldn't leave. Grief for the ones who didn't make it. And a guilt I couldn't name—the guilt of being the one who got out. In this video, I talk about the survivor's guilt that so many Black Americans feel when they move abroad. I share my own experience, and I offer ways to honor the grief while still allowing yourself to thrive.
