Her name is Nicola Howard. Respect to her and to all the 16 year-old boys that did the same thing in years past.

Don't forget Sailors Climbing the Mast on Sailing ships in all weather and Seas .That's what made the British Royal Navy Great .

AS A 15 YEAR OLD SAILOR I CLIMBED THE MAST AT HMS GANGES BUT THERE WAS NO LADDER FROM THE BULLS HORNS TO THE BUTTON YOU HAD SHIN UP THE MAST AND THEN REACH FOR THE METAL ROD ON THE BUTTON AND JUST PULL YOURSELF UP ONTO THE BUTTON. VERY SCARY INDEED

My dad was the button boy at Ganges. He joined the Royal Navy as a boy seaman at the age of 15

It's the British royal marines playing the music and the British royal navy climbing the mass

Even as an Englishman I have NEVER seen anything like this. Videos don't really make me react but DAMN! I cannot express enough the amount of respect I have for that girl to have climbed to the top and SALUTED also!

As a former Royal Navy sailor, it makes me proud to see these traditions are still being maintained the lady at the top of the mat is very very brave. This used to be a common occurrence for boy sailors who went through Ganges before it was shut down. The master Ga has recently been restored after being damaged. I don’t think you realise just how high that mask is until you see it in person hat off bravo Zulu

Daedalus mast is less than half the size of the one from HMS Ganges which stands 142 feet. I climbed it and stood atop it with the lightning conductor between my knees. I suggest you watch the video of that one guys. The Queen would come to watch it.

My father joined HMS Ganges in 1948, he then served at HMS Daedalus until 1973, I have seen this when I was 12 at HMS Vincent in Gosport . It scared the hell out of me. Very brave people

A boyhood friend of mine was button boy. It was 52yrs ago, he had a terrible childhood and the Royal Navy was the making of him.

I was a Tiff at Daedalus. Many happy days there. Unfortunately no longer with us just like Fisgard. But memories last a lifetime ❤

Sailors had to get to the mastheads quickly to furl and reef the sails, the last part of that was known as sliding down a back stay. The quickest and probably safest way to reach the deck.
