I'm Nigel Harrington, and for twenty years I've worked as a food inspector — walking through processing plants, reading supplier contracts most shoppers never see. This week I put Tesco, Lidl, and Aldi's own-brand extra virgin olive oil through the same scrutiny I apply on the job: sourcing records, independent lab testing, and international competition scores.
One of these bottles came back with zero contamination out of 24 oils tested. Another one is hiding a 20-fold quality drop behind two nearly identical caps. And the most expensive bottle on the shelf turned out to be the weakest one.
