Two left, two right – and what's in between? Perhaps that's precisely where we should start talking to each other again. In Current Camera #241, Uwe Steimle once again explores what happens when political camps become more important than thinking together.



Steimle's Current Camera We now have 197,000 subscribers – a heartfelt thank you to all of you! And of course, this week offers plenty of material for dark humor. Amidst special task forces, special funds, and money flowing surprisingly quickly in some places and remarkably slowly in others, the question arises: Where's the bottleneck?

Our focus shifts to Berlin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and, of course, Saxony. We discuss election results and potential coalitions, social hotspots, austerity measures, and the potential consequences of cutting spending precisely where societal problems are already visible.

In Dresden, we return to the spectacular Green Vault heist. Uwe Steimle recalls the events of that time, the security concepts, and the responsibilities involved – ultimately arriving at a theme that extends far beyond Dresden: home and belonging. Because perhaps knowing where you come from isn't so unimportant in order to know where you belong.

This issue also addresses the topic of housing. Why does rent now devour a significant portion of many people's income? Who benefits from this – and which political decisions of recent decades have contributed to it?

But Aktuelle Kamera wouldn't be Aktuelle Kamera if, amidst the politics and absurdity, there wasn't also room for stories, memories, and recommendations. This time, among other things, we're looking at a very special cookbook where recipes are just one part of the story. We're exploring Jewish life, prejudices, half-truths, and the wonderful ability to use humor to make even serious issues more accessible.

And finally, we're left with an insight that perhaps resonates more with our times than any political slogan: It's not just the worries and fears of citizens that should be taken seriously – perhaps we also need to start addressing the worries and fears of our politicians.
