No sediment trap on the gas line?

My friend and I used to say (In front of the customer) "Pretty good for our first time!"

If you think your water heater is nearing the end of it’s life, there’s something to be said for replacing it at a time when it’s convenient for you, as opposed to waiting until it has to be replaced,

You can tell you are an HVAC guy, opening the faucet hot water side..."open the high side"

The other reason for the expansion tank code requirement is to allow expanding hot water to go somewhere. Years ago many municipal water sources did not have a check valve at the street supplying your water. Without an expansion tank you could push your water back into the municipal supply. Most municipals have replaced your meter/valve at the street with check valves that only allow the water to flow towards you. This is why you need to have an expansion tank to absorb the expanding pressure.

A sediment trap is a must. Not only does the building code require it, but the manufacturer’s manual also mandates it. Practically speaking? It’s okay without one. However, when you sell your home, the home inspector will point it out, and you’ll have to fix it anyway. Just do it now.

Wish you had opened up the old tank to see how bad the sediment was.

I replaced 2 DIY over 40 years. Didn't know as much with anodes back then with the first one but replaced the anodes as needed then later used the electronic one. Did not price out how much for the whole job but scored a scratch and dent unit for half of new price so was not complaining.

the brass or copper connected to galvanized will make the galvanized rust badly it should have a dielectric union

Time to change that old furnace.

On my gas water heater there is an electric grounding wire bridging the hot and cold pipes. Wouldn't the metal expansion tank need one since it is separated from the rest of the system by a non conductive piece of pex pipe?

picked up a new rheen 4 ton and air handler 3 years ago, its catastrophically failed, txv and coils. cost 4 grand. so now a 9 grand system. so i disabled it completely, plugged the lines and sold it all. installed window units because my mom is 90 and the hvac scams are so bad in fl no one can afford it. i saved 3.5 grand. i will never call and hvac company ever again.
