A Passionate Defense of Mario Kart World

Shifted Pyro

56,790 views

After Mario Kart 8's unprecedented success, its successor would have some big shoes to fill. Yet, Mario Kart World decides to forge its own path in lieu of following in 8's footsteps. For some, its new direction was off-putting. But for me, it rekindled a passion I haven't felt in years.

Big shoutout to ‪@Tronk_‬ and ‪@Snugboy‬ for providing sound effects and helping me record footage! Also another shoutout to the Super Mario Wiki for their wonderful course maps, this video wouldn't have been done without them!

I actually enjoyed what World brought. Sometimes I'll put it on and just drive around the world. No racing, no pressure, just a nice peaceful drive.

As a certified enjoyer of Mario Kart World, this video was a real treasure to watch. It's nice to see an actual positive spin that can see something beyond "intermissions bad". MKW's definitely got some issues, but it's incredibly far from the "soulless game" that some paint it as.
But as a fellow video editor, my soul ached watching this, 'cause I know most of the tricks required to pull off the crazy visuals in this video; I dunno how ya did this for a 90-minute video without goin' crazy.

I think I've seen more of people talking about Mario Kart World than actually playing it

@knuckleheadwestwind3585 5 months ago

I have always appreciated that World sought to do things differently. Not only is MK8 a near perfect rendition of that formula, but it is on the same console as MKWorld.

Mkworld is the double dash of this time. Double dash used to be divisive but now is loved by most people for its uniqueness

This is one of my new fave videos on YT, extremely well done; you pointed out exactly why I love this game where I couldn't point it out myself

Absolutely incredible video. I’ve put thousands of hours into the series, and you perfectly encapsulate my thoughts and feelings on why World has become my favorite in the series, surprisingly surpassing Wii as my favorite after nearly 500 hours of play with World. I really hope more people come to see just how amazing this game is over time.

So, so, so glad that YT recommended me this video. It's so great to hear a positive, yet not blindly so, take on this game. I was stunned to realize that this took most of a year, but, my god, I hope it paid off well for you. I really cannot get over the editing, especially. It'd be crazy on like a 10 minute video but this on a whole movie's worth is something else entirely. You clearly love this game, one could even say you're passionate about it. I'll admit that I am not into Xenoblade but I'd love to see what you make in the future.

Also, I may have mistakenly put this on to listen to while I'd do drawing practice. Worth it.

I IMMEDIATELY subscribed when I saw all the UI-inspired edits in the first couple of minutes - and on. Haven't finished the video yet, but I love it already! W edits

This video perfectly encapsulated my feelings towards this game! It’s may not be perfect but every second i hop in is a blast, either online, knockout or just vibing and do some hide and seek with friends in Free Roam. It’s a game for the ages and i’m glad you gave the appreciation and dedication (seriously, one of the best edits i’ve ever seen) this game deserves ❤

It's such a breath of fresh air seeing a video on this game that doesn't feel like it's made out of bad faith. Great video!

Very impressive editing and attention to detail!

Good content within, too

As someone who wants to improve their editing, the first like 5 minutes blew me away. You can clearly see your crop bearing fruit and its awesome. Keep up the work homie

Good lord dude you cooked again! Loved this so much! TBH I haven’t played MK World in months but this video has convinced me to go back and give it another chance.

@MichaelThompson-il2sc 4 months ago

Admittedly I don't play Mario Kart but ever since World came out I've been watching every video Shortcat puts out, and I've learned that there's a lot of minute parts that makes up the game, even more so than 8 though 8 has more actual stages. I feel down when I hear people don't give it it's dues, as a genuinely good game.

I´m sure that in say 15 years, Mario Kart World (also with its future dlc´s) will be remembered as one of the best Mario Kart games and Mario Games in General, especially by all of the kids who have the privilege of growing up with Mario Kart World today and it´s open world

Amazing video, editing, and sound effect choices. Easily earned a sub like and comment. So happy to find quality channels like yours!

@StanleyV64 4 months ago

It was really nice to see a positive review of the game! The price tag means I'm very unlikely to ever buy it, but I'm glad some people are able to acknowledge that yet still have a good time with it.

@Mar1o_640 5 months ago

My God
The editing is CLEAN
This is honestly the video that’s really made me want to buy Mariokart World, so thanks for that my guy

Pyro, my good buddy, the constant improvements you make with each video is truly inspiring. The amount of time and effort this has taken is CLEARLY evident. Some of the best quality content you can find in not just the Nintendo community but on YouTube as a whole! Your passion is infectious dude :) Here's to more mario kart sessions down the line and here's to even more PEAK content from ya!!!

Also lets give my boy Dry Bones some drip already...
