Anne Brorhilker was a senior public prosecutor and the driving force behind the Cum-Ex investigations. In an interview with CORRECTIV Senior Reporter Jean Peters, she explains the resistance she encountered in her work (spoiler alert: a great deal), why it's inaccurate to dismiss the multi-billion-euro fraud as a mere loophole, and how bureaucratic failure, unwillingness, and a powerful financial lobby have cost us all an unimaginable amount of money. In April 2024, Anne Brorhilker requested to be released from public service due to doubts about the political will to investigate the staggering tax fraud. Today, she is co-managing director of the association "Bürgerbewegung Finanzwende e.V." (Citizens' Movement for Financial Reform), which aims to counterbalance the overwhelming power of the financial lobby. Her first book, "Cum/Ex, Billions and Morality," was published in November 2025.
