Jordan & McKay 🚨 ALLEGEDLY 🚨 Jennonites confirmed.

“Jeff was obsessed with Hitler as a kid”
Me: “Well that is a red flag” 🥴

The fact that he was able to convince people in his sect that HE was the president of the entire country really goes to show you how isolated these people were. Just imagine being SO isolated that you could be convinced that someone else is the president?! Crazy!

We stan a queen who updates her content when she gets new information and corrects previous statements. We're not perfect, we're all just doing our best and adjusting to the human experience. Love you!

I grew up Mormon and I was always told by church leaders and especially by my mom that I needed to be meek, mild and sweet. I was always described as a “sweet girl,” and now whenever sweet is used as a description for a person, I feel an irrational anger. Anytime I talked back or stood up for myself or expressed an opinion I was shut down by my mother. She said, “be the sweet girl I know you to be.”

In every single systematic abuse story, there's always one person who tried their HARDEST to get close to the abuser and the abuser wouldn't abuse them so they turn around and say "well he didn't abuse me so idk seems suspish". Every. Single. Time.

As someone who go didn’t necessarily grown up in a religious household, but grew up around a man that ingrained the “keeping sweet” sentiment in my mind in order to continue their abuse without the knowledge of other family members. Now in my adult life, I still see myself staying quiet and keeping nice when I’m uncomfortable or when someone says something inappropriate to me. I definitely feel like this is something a lot of women deal with and have had to self reflect in their adult life to deconstruct these ideas. The teaching of “keep sweet” have silence so many voices.

Ok but on a serious note, as former Brighamite mormons, this was a very important video for us in learning more about the sect that people often confused us with.

The clip of Jeffs speaking gives me chills. I grew up mainstream Mormon, and his manner of speaking is near identical to the way the mainstream prophets speak.

This guy married his own mother (and his dad's other wives!), killed pets and banned the use of seasoning? Then he proceeds to tell the men in this community that it's ok to marry girls as young as 12?! WTF?!

"The Challenger blew up due to a cult" is simultaneously the craziest and the most 80's thing I've ever heard.

IMPORTANT NOTE; “white slavery” was the polite name for sexual slavery back in the day

Growing Up In Polygamy is a YouTube channel created by a guy who left the FLDS. He talks about his experience and how different his life is now. Including the things that still make him uncomfortable even though he intellectually knows there's nothing wrong with them. When discussing the lives of girls/women he and his wife interview women who left. His wife grew up LDS and will talk about the differences in how they grew up.

As a former member of the LDS mormons I'm not surprised by any of this. After 41 years I left last spring. One thing they all have in common is believing Joseph Smith to be the first leader and prophet. He's a man who groomed and married girls as young as 14. He also married 11 women who were already married to living men. I finally paid attention to the history of the church and got out as fast as I could!

When any organization gets so inclined as to dictate what UNDERGARMENTS participants are to wear... that's when I definitely have questions. No? Just me?

“Our joy was to come from loving our husbands, not from our husbands loving us.” :(

Wow, that quote says a lot :(

The worst part about these kind of cults is I know they are wrong and something must be done about them, but I don't know WHAT. Because government raids aren't the answer.

I would like to point out that it wasn't as if abuse wasn't taking place within the group in 1953. Minor girls were still being married off to old men, and young adults had virtually no say in their educational aspirations or life choices. IMO, it's unfortunate that journalists don't see the big picture, and continue to look at these groups as just a bunch of quirky people. The cycle repeated itself when law enforcement raided YFZ, in Texas. I also suspect the state of Texas didn't really know what to do with all of the children, or how to help them, nor did they really want to. It's always been cheaper and easier to look the other way.

I’ve lived in slc my whole life (im not mormon) , my grandparents live just outside the flds compounds. I was able to see colorado city a few times, being there in real life was extremely unsettling. They have a special mini “hospital” for pregnant women, basically an old small hotel building, and force them to walk up a VERY steep and dangerous hill to induce labour.  And the fences are very close to what would be used at prisons. Also they could tell our car wasn’t familiar so every time we would turn up a new street they would all sprint and hide just like that news segment. All I can think about is the poor kids getting born and indoctrinated into this cult. Most boys who aren’t “high ranking” get kicked out and forced to live on their own at 16, because of their lifestyle however they sadly don’t know how to function in the “real world” and find themselves homeless or dealing with drug addictions due to trauma. Warren Jeffs is truly the scum of the  earth, and the antithesis of a “holy man”. Rant over :)

As an Armenian, I always find it funny when Mormons come to my door. Their faces when I tell them we've had a Christian nation since 400 A.D.: 👁👄👁
