You come back from vacation exhausted from the trip, and the first thing you want to do is drop your suitcase and jump in the shower. That's exactly the one thing I'm telling you NOT to do today. It's not my obsession: it's written in the Legionnaires' disease prevention guidelines. In this video, we'll go through the 5 checks I do at home every time I return from a long absence, in real time: the health check, the sewer smell that always returns, the 20-cent trick to find out if the freezer turned off while you were away, the water leak that's been quietly operating for weeks, and the air you breathe when you turn the air conditioner back on. Finally, I'll also give you the 5 things to do BEFORE leaving, which will eliminate almost all these problems.
🌡 TEMPERATURES THAT MATTER
Legionella survives between 6 and 63 degrees Celsius, but it multiplies especially between 25 and 42 degrees Celsius. This is why turning down the boiler to 40 degrees Celsius before leaving, to save two euros, is the most harmful advice circulating online: you're creating the perfect incubator. The guidelines say the opposite: keep the water in the boiler at least 60 degrees Celsius and the tap at least 50 degrees Celsius. But be careful: at that temperature, the water can be seriously scalding, so if you have children or elderly people in the home, you'll need a thermostatic mixer.
✅ 5 STEPS TO DO BEFORE LEAVING
1. Turn off the main water valve: no leak can cause any damage
2. Plug the drains and place a weight on the drains to prevent the traps from drying out
3. Place a glass of ice-cold water with a coin in it in the freezer
4. Unplug everything that isn't essential, leaving only the fridge and freezer
5. Run the air conditioning on fan only for half an hour to dry out the battery and avoid mold upon your return

La moneta no, ma se manca corrente mi arriva l'avviso quando va.. e quando torna.
Comunque ci sono condizionatori che fanno quello che dici (e anche di più) in automatico, non aggiungo altro, so che non ti piace che si citino marchi che non siano sponsor.
Il boiler elettrico dovrebbe essere spento o no? Che senso ha lasciarlo acceso?
