I’m stepping outside my usual junk journaling world and trying something new—nature journaling! I’m headed to a three-day nature journaling workshop, so I made myself a journal to take along for the adventure. In this video, I’ll show you my finished handmade nature journal, including its deliberately rustic corrugated-cardboard cover, varied papers, and a special folding pocket for collecting little observations and treasures along the way. I’ll also share the small portable art kit I’m putting together for the workshop.

This journal is beautiful to me, but I deliberately didn’t want it to feel precious. I need to be willing to draw in it, paint in it, make mistakes in it—and maybe get it a little messy!

I’m especially interested in nature journaling as a way to slow down, pay attention and really notice what’s around me. I’m still very much a beginner at this part of journaling, and I’m excited to see what happens when a junk journaler takes her journal into the wild!
