Really enjoying your videos. This one is a great example of why non native singers (and I believe everyone dealing with language) should learn IPA (at least the English charts if teaching English pronunciation.) Then explaining a word like "confide" with it's 2 syllables (but 3 vowels) and diphthong at the end (cɔnˈfaɪd), or the instance in which 2 vowels written together can be just one sound as in "read" (riːd) would make so much more sense. Trying to divide syllables with orthography can get incredibly confusing and we have to result to round about ways like "the "e" at the end of confide is silent but the "i" is a long sound despite the fact it is technically a closed syllable due to the silent "e".. etc" Phonetics solves all these problems. :)

Its interesting how I was born in canada but because were so multicultural at school growing up I believe I picked up the accent that my family had overseas and tried to mix it up with the canadain accents I heard from others at school. I also never used to open my mouth wide when I spoke so I have a habit of draging my words or reading it the way I see it and after recording myself sing today I was wondering if there was some problem with my teeth or my jaw structure. But this video saved and helped me alot to improve my pronounciation which I didn't know I needed until I was an adult much appreciated

They didn't teach us English spelling in Finnish school at all, pronunciation was taught by imitating.

About the example with the Russian and the word 'sit'... Us Finnish tend to pronounce it wrong, too, but in another way (maybe someone has heard some 'rallienglanti' = rally English often heard from Finnish rally drivers :) It's kinda joke in Finland, here's a short clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62GQLILKkU4 ).  I've been trying to learn it by recording myself and listening to it and maybe I've gotten better but I'm still unsure and I don't know sometimes why I don't get it  to sound right even when the example doesn't sound so much different from the Finnish vowel.  Maybe something more about this in your next diction video?
