Taste Test: Are 'Cheap Lazy Vegan' Recipes Family Approved?

PB with J

17,188 views

We put Cheap Lazy Vegan’s most popular recipes to the ultimate test: our family dinner table. Rose, a fellow Canadian and queen of budget-friendly plant-based eats, is known for her easy, tasty, and sometimes cheeky takes on vegan food — but will her recipes pass the "PB with J" family test?
In this video, we test drive five of her standout creations:

🥬 Smash Burger Tacos
🍳 Easy Sheet Pan Bibimbap
🌞 Breakfast Tofu Sandwich
🍪 Chickpea Chocolate Chip Cookies
🌶️ Easy Gochujang Sauce

We’ll share what worked, what surprised us, and whether these meals earned repeat status in our kitchen. Plus, we ask the big question: should we start doing food tours too?

HI LOL👋 I normally don't like watching videos about me, but thank you so much for this fun video and kind introduction and review~ I don't do lots of dessert recipes as i'm not a huge baker and i'm more of a savoury tooth haha I'm very impressed you made your own gochujang. I've never made my own!! I wonder how much the taste differs from store-bought. oh and my cafe is pronounced like "savage" haha :) hopefully you guys can come by one day! Love the effort and work you've put into this video, I know it must've been a LOT of work. You've gotten yourself a new subscriber!

Rose is my friend - I've been on three of her trips already. She is a beautiful, genuine human who truly is vegan for the animals. xoxoxo

Like the other commenter said, I've been a fan of CLV for a LONG time I was even gonna suggest her for your videos so I'm super excited to watch this 🎉thank you Jeremy ❤

Rose's garlic prep. and her scrambled tofu spice mix [prep.] Oh and introducing me to gochuchang --- I am forever grateful.

Cheap Lazy Vegan is one of the first channels I discovered when I went vegan in 2019 and is still one of my favorites.

@hypnosisforhappiness 1 year ago

The name of Rose's cafe is a play of words between "savage" and "veg", so it's pronounced SAHveg, with the stress of the first syllable like "savage".

She is fun! She's vegan for the animals (unless she changed her ways). She does Not preach. Love Rose! Love her channel!

Maybe some oats in the chickpea cookies, to turn into cookie firmness. I like Rose's channel.

Rose is lovely, her recipes are great and I love that she is real vegan for the animals ❤

One of the only times that swapping may not work is when you are cooking something with the word "butter" or "buttery" in the title - there really is no sub for what butter does to a sauce and how it affects the overall flavor profile. That is why I don't usually cook recipes like that where butter is a main ingredient and I'm not sure how that recipe for buttery noodles would have come out without actually using butter, but feel free to prove me wrong. I watch Rose and her recipes are generally not too involved. Her vegan travel trips abroad look really fun.

I love her so much! I'm so glad that you delved into this!

I’ve tried and loved her: mushroom black bean burritos, (I make a bunch with Aldi protein wraps & freeze for lunch) seaweed soup, barley minestrone soup, raspberry muffins, soft tofu stew, white bean soup and I always have a double batch of her scramble seasoning on hand for scrambled tofu. She also has some good vegan kimbap & tofu videos. Unless you are used to it, start with a fraction of the spice she uses on Korean recipes 💚

Her best recipe to me is her vegan Korean Army Stew - the Bomb!! Love it soooo much!!!!

Your son is sooo funny & 100% correct, “Baked at zero degrees!” 😂😂
And “Hello! From Aliso Viejo, California👋🏼👋🏼.

@gmaandi486 5 months ago

Your daughter reminds me of my son. We would go to the table and his first question would be, "Does it have tofu in it?" 😂😂😂😂

@InfiniteQuest86 1 year ago

Toasted sesame seeds instead of sesame oil. It's not a perfect sub but it avoids the oil.

@JohannaZee 1 year ago

I love that smash taco also!

“You can’t call it a cookie if it’s not cooked!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🍪

@bernadettechute7998 1 year ago

😂😂 Annie liked the burger until you said it had walnuts and mushroom!! 😂😂

Won’t let me add dessert to my original post… also from broccoli mum. It’s her short video on edible cookie dough.

1 can chickpea, 1/4c PB2, 6 dates, 1t vanilla, 1t baking powder, dash salt in food processor. I add dark chocolate baking bar smashed into smaller pieces (2 squares per batch). Makes 8 cookies. Baked 350 for 20 minutes. I bake in my toaster oven since only 8 cookies. Just mash them down with fork before baking. No fat, they won’t flatten otherwise.
