I used keygroups on my MPC 4000 back in the day (they had a built in Z8 sampler). I was glad to see the new MPCs kept this feature, you can really take full advantage of sampled instruments.

I'm a big keygroup fan. I always sampled several notes up & down the keyboard from my outboard gear & programmed them across the keybed in the NNXT in my early days of using Reason & in also programmed them in my Roland G8 back in the day

in the Daw MPC there is an option where you can literally suck a sound from a VST to transform it into a Keygroup! I did it with the Triton brass it works perfectly in stabdalone mode 🎯 Keygroupe is the Key !!

Keygroup Keygroup is basically octave and pitch and 16 level is velocity and octave

Mpc 5000 had key groups and that was like 20 years ago

Even on the 1k/2500 with JJOS I would just 16 levels to test out a sample with different pitches & if I liked what I could come up with I would make a program with that sample on multiple pads pitched up & down. A quick way the lengthen your notes is to go into Seq Edit (Mode+Pad 13) use the "To the Next Note" in the Duration option. Also, wasn't keygroups on the 1k/2500 called Instrument Tracks?

I only use 16 levels for drums and percussion to make it more interesting. I love Key Groups though. One of the best features on the MPC

Do you have any videos on making your first beat, or could you possibly make one? Got my mpc live 2 through zzounds and little bewildered by mpc 3. Yes there are other videos out there but they can't compete with your teaching style. Also yes as you stated I am older....
