Can you beat the game using only an Onix challenge run? See how an ultra minimum battles strategy handles the toughest encounters.
This playthrough focuses on the specific constraints of an ultra minimum battles run using only Onix. If you enjoy seeing how restricted Pokémon teams handle difficult boss fights and unexpected faints, this breakdown highlights the precise tactical decisions required to succeed. We navigate the specific limitations that come with this low-count strategy, including the difficult choice of which moves to keep and which to discard.
Watch the full progression as we reach the conclusion of this Pokemon Onix run and review the final score summary. This challenge showcases how careful move management and battle planning affect the outcome of a Pokemon challenge run. It is a look at how far a single, restricted Pokemon can go when forced into tight corners.

Pre-watch analysis: Unfortunately, Kanga's mom does NOT have it going on. This is just a Pokemon with a whole lot of nothing going for it. It's not like it's flat garbage, our attack stat is solid, but it's not like it's OUTSTANDING and it's really all Kanga has beyond an also good, but not great speed stat. The big problem here is our special is terrible and our "good" attack and speed aren't compensating for that, and that's going to be a problem for many key fights throughout the game.
Now, in Kanga's defense for a moment, I do remember an old Scott's Thoughts video where he compared it to Tauros, and Kanga actually performed pretty similarly due to Kanga being in a better level-up group- I don't think this will actually translate to UMB, though. I won't say the extra levels are completely mitigated and don't matter but when EXP is more limited than a Minimum Battles run I do think it evens out a little more. And also the big thing is that Tauros actually has a special stat for it's TM moves to actually do damage, though Kangaskhan can still get value out of fishing for freezes and we're probably going to have to go that route sometime.
It's up in the air how Tauros will perform in this, but I would say at the bare minimum I think he will do better than Kanga, and that's partially because I really don't have very high hopes for this Pokemon- good strengths, terrible weakness, and we can't even do anything like badge boost to make up for it. We might be singing a very different tune if this thing got Agility but we live in the world as it is. I don't want to say Kangskhan is so bad it can't beat the game, but.... unfortunately, I kind of do. Just what does she even do?
But I could be wrong, and maybe a victory is possible, but if it is... boy, is it not going to be pretty.
