Todays reaction / analysis is concerned with the song Caskets by Ren, a thoughtful song about relationships, memories, loss and the passing of time. It got me thinking about how we move through all these different transitions in life, meeting people who become incredibly important to our stories, while knowing that we can never really go backwards. There is something heartbreaking about wanting to reach back and grab those earlier moments when all we have left of them is the memory. But perhaps the fact that losing these moments hurts so much also tells us something about just how much they mattered in the first place.

For me, there is also something here about acceptance and trying to appreciate the moments we have while we are actually in them. We know that the people we love will not be with us forever, and one day either they are going to die or we are, but we would not want to lose everything meaningful that came before simply to avoid that pain. Sometimes it takes a song like this to remind us to situate ourselves in those little moments, whether that is an inside joke, time with somebody we love, or simply seeing your child light up when they see you.
