I have some lab-grown sapphires, one ring and a couple of pendants.  I have one ring with a colorful array of natural sapphires in different colors with one ruby set with some small natural diamonds. The lab-grown sapphires are really beautiful, the pendants were cut with the "pixel" cut and they are surprisingly pretty if unconventional. The natural sapphires, basically small chips, are not nearly as good looking in appearance when viewed under a loupe, but they are eye-clean and that ring is also nice. That is a truly gorgeous stone you cut and polished. Excellent. Thank you for sharing the process!

IMO, just give me the most finely ordered crystal structure with as little unintended contamination as possible. If I am nature, and I make a "perfect" sapphire, then nature has made a sapphire. 💎

nice work! I think the fact that genuine synthetic gems can be created adds to the charm of natural stones. My father and his father loved natural stones. I really started to appreciate them more after using industrial diamond, and cutting some synthetic stones, but it's the human work in jewelry that really appeals to me, more than even the materials.

I wonder if one could use vapor deposition to put some reflective precious metal on the bottom of the stone. Like gold or silver.

Hello Justin I hope you are well. I have been cutting and shaping some Aluminum Dops for my Sterling handpiece, Is brass so much better that I should make the effort to find 6mm (2GA) Brass to make some dops out of? (finding 7mm aluminum to work down was very easy for me to find)
On a side note, I am working on practicing some apposed bar cuts with some Oregon sunstone rough. Any tips? The Smithsonian Bar is not at the critical angle for Sunstone. I am planning to try a few runs where I use my own angles, Thoughts or tip?
