40 Years Later: The Untold Story of Cliff Burton

Rock Feed

September 27, 1986: Metallica's Cliff Burton won a card game for the best bunk on the tour bus. Hours later, he was gone. Forty years on, this Rock Feed special episode tells the whole story: the kid who picked up the bass for his brother, the band that moved 400 miles to get him, the night in Sweden, the black ice nobody could find, and the legacy fans still honor at the side of the road.

Rest in peace, Cliff Burton (1962–1986).

I’mma keep saying it shout out to Jason for keeping this band going even though they didn’t deserve him. he was a true fan of the band. he knew his role and played it well.

I met my wife in Tucson Arizona at the TCC Convention Center, May 86 at the Ozzy Osbourne ultimate sin/Metallica master of puppets show and totally remember the bass guitarist bobbing his head back-and-forth. My wife and I are still together and have been ever since May 1986, God bless those leather mini skirts

Even back in Trauma, us local kids supporting him playing the parks and clubs, we knew that he was special. Rest in peace Cliff. ⚡🤘🖤

RIP Cliff Burton 🤘🖤 First heard Metallica, Master of Puppets, summer 86, at the mall, I was 12yo, and it woke something within me. A couple months later, Cliff was killed in the bus accident. 2026, I have an awesome pitbull / blue healer / mastiff puppy who I named Cliff Burton. ❤🤘He is the best little guy ever.

40 years already, time flies. It's amazing that these guys were in their early 20s making amazing songs. I feel bad for Cliff's parents, they did an amazing job raising their kids and their lives ended in tragedy. RIP Cliff, your bass lines still hit hard.

Hey man I'm really liking the way you did this video it's like a true crime format used on a biography of a rock and roll bassist life story... Keep up the good work bro!!

I saw Cliff Burton/Metallica live with Ozzy Osborne in the Chicago west suburbs when I was 16 years old. Sadly, a few days later... We were let known that Cliff Burton was dead.
It was a sad day.
