The Secret Reason You Can’t Buy a House

More Perfect Union

There’s a monopoly on home construction screwing over America. The biggest builders work with Wall St. to maximize profits, at the expense of everyone who wants to own a home. One family told us that the black mold in their poorly built home made their daughter cry blood.

More Perfect Union is an Emmy-winning, nonprofit newsroom whose mission is to build power for working people. Here’s what that means: We report on the real struggles and challenges of the working class from a working-class perspective. We attempt to connect those problems to potential solutions. We report on the abuses and wrongdoing of corporate power. And we seek to hold accountable the ultra-rich who have too much power over America’s political and economic systems.

Funny how these economic problems always boil down to monopolies which are supposed to be illegal.

Constant fraud in every single Fuking area of this country but no one goes to jail except the citizens.

Same root problem as the auto industry; They aren't selling you a house or car they are selling you a loan.

Greedy rich people are going to make life a living hell for most Americans and Europeans.

Even those homes they're building are so depressing. No grass, no trees, no natural beauty. They're devoid of what life should be. Devoid of a soul - just like those builders.

We live in a corporation, not a country.

As a carpenter, this is infuriating. Those little houses are not difficult. Even a halfway competent carpenter could build them well. And it gives carpenters a bad rap. I hate everything about it...

So if a homeowner wants to do an upgrade or addition to their home, a permit is required to build to code. Where is the built to code on these failing homes!

God, those copy/paste neighborhoods look so depressing.

The fact that everybody keep calling houses or condos 'home' shows how much marketing have been done to our brain. Words matter.

Anyone else 100% fucking fed up with corporations and politicians taking advantage of everyone?

Mold is a much bigger issue than most people are willing to admit.

If these houses are passing a final inspection go after the building department too.

Two weeks to fix an AC unit but if you're even a little late with your rent. They're up your ass

As a firefighter, I can say, I fear going into a new house much more than a new one. They are made of the cheapest, lightest materials possible and held together with plates that penetrate the wood by less than an inch. They collapse readily under the slightest environmental or fire stress.

We are already in a society of perma-renters. Even after you pay off your home, fall behind on your taxes and you lose it. We own nothing here.

Don't ever buy houses from corporations or realtors. These people are paying six figures for terrible modern shotgun houses. You can buy liveable houses that need very little attention for WAY cheaper direct from owners. Even if you fully remodel the house, you're gonna come out way below what these creeps charge.
