Thank you for this video I pick one of these up for $20 and the belt was snapped and dry rotted to the turntable plate and the motor was stuck, I did this maintenance and it started working again thank you my guy I really appreciate you and your channel!

Instructions unclear, my turntable is now drunk and wants to open a microbrewery

thanks for the video! I got the same turntable off marketplace yesterday and fixed it up after watching this video.

Thank you for this video. I have a Panasonic RD-3500 which is very close to this one. You hit on a lot of interesting points and I was able to get mine up and going again.

Excellent lesson!

Thanks for your time and your video.
I found the issue in my sl 20 fg servo.
I put only some oil (jigaloo), on the switch button (33, 45, off), that's all and i fixed the speed of my turntable, really good solution to remove grip and "some brake" for the speed issues 👍🏻

I've just bought an SL-20 for 30 Euros and it seems to have to same problem with the switch, also the belt is decomposing. Thanks so much for this video, since it's a gift i was already sad, now i know what i've gotta do(:

The Technics SL-20 are one of the best sounding belt drives by any company . well worth restoring. i have a SL120 Servo DD and SL20 .i bought a modern 1200 but sold it after a few months as it was a downgrade on both my 70s Technics

In these turntables you have also to remove the motor cap with date manufacturing label, lubricate the other motor bearing and check the electrolytic capacitors inside the motor hidden under the metal cap with  date label to do a perfect service job. These hidden capacitors often show leakage.

As an owner of this TT, I must thank you for this video. The SL-20 remains a criminally underrated TT, which carries all of the necessary features to be considered a reliable hi-fi component (it doesn't reach the hi-end spectrum, though). Basically, it is the "twin little" brother of the Sl-23 TT, as they share the same motor and functionalities, with the SL-23 presenting also a stroboscope, two knobs for the pitch and speed adjustment and automatic return of the tonearm. However, the fully manual character of the SL-20 can be an advantage, as it allows for every record to be played fully throughout the groove, without the auto-return interrupting the hearing of records with thin dead-end wax. The Sl-20 delivers a strong punch of sound in the middle range, being also quite and reliable. My own Sl-20 is measured with a mean WOW (RMS) between 0,10-0,15%, while it has reached measurements as low as 0,06%. This is its factory measurement, which is quite impressive, working very close to the default ones after 50 years! I note that it is a bit more accurate on the 45 rpm speed, while the 33 rpm may need some adjustment. Your TT here comes with its original headshell, with the central screw for adjusting the overhang (mine came with a newer headshell, without the central screw). Extremely minimal in its construction, it allows relatively easy maintenance (as you present here - I am not quite a handyman, I admit). This is one of the best TTs in the secondary market, especially for its quality - price ratio. It will deliver lots of hours of enjoyment, for a listener focused more on the music (and not on the hi-end measurements). 😎

Mine had a dirty switch which I’d have to hold at a certain spot to get it to spin at both speeds. Cleaned it and did a full service and it works like a charm

My suggestion for cleaning out the spindle pit is a 22 caliber pistol cleaning kit.

I made the mistake of removing the switch plates and the tiny contact clips both fell off the rotating disk,  and now i don't how they're supposed to clip back on correctly.  :(

Can you comment what type of tool you used to adjust the potentiometers? I can’t see a head type and I’ve tried a variety and not having good luck getting them to respond.

Amazing video.  I have 2 of these turntables and neither is working well.  I can wait to break into them.  Could you list the items you used to clean with and lubricants?  Also what app was that?

I have the same and it doesn't run regularly. Do you have an idea of the problem?

You have to clean the grado contact pads in the cart body and the stylus.

When you set tracking force, you should have the mat and a record in place, for better accuracy.

Hi again! Could you have used the same lubricant you used on the motor on the spindle? Thanks
