From the fetal stage onward, a memory without recollections emerges, preceded by traces of our origins. These traces of life overwhelm us or elude us, enchant or haunt us, uplift or stun us when linked to the unspeakable, guide us or lead us astray, often deceive us, and always fade away. Different forms of expression, art as well as storytelling, recall them in their own way. Storytelling can be spoken silently, shared, and it shapes our surroundings as much as it shapes or distorts us. What do we do with them? Do they anchor our pain, or are they potential factors of resilience? On the occasion of the tribute paid to Germaine Tillion at the Panthéon in 2015, Boris Cyrulnik revisits the life of the French Resistance fighter to develop the theory of resilience in extreme situations.
