It snapped at the choke because the strap around the tree was biting into itself amplifying the pressure on itself at that exact point significantly. The "pinging" noises was strands breaking at the choke. Never use a choke for that purpose.

I love your stump pulling videos and learn something new with each one. I just watched the video where the strap attached to the stump snapped. Probably you are already aware but it occurred to me that two straps attached to the stump (like you have usually done) which would share the pull load would give you a much higher probability of success. Just as you attached your hardware to two anchor trees to split the anchor load, your normal method of two pull straps on the stump , each attached to one of the anchor lines, would split/share the pull force that caused the single strap to fail. Thank you so much for sharing your stump pulling adventures, they have been an education for me that I have not found anywhere else.

It is very interesting to see your experience. However, from 15:1 and even more from 30:1 mechanical advantage, you expect a much greater result. Especially when you have a tractor and all that attachment.
In particular, this stump does not seem to be large in diameter, the other day I also dug it by hand near the fence with an even larger size - 30-35 cm in diameter. Yes, it is difficult to do it manually, but I don't have a tractor or all these blocks and even kilometers of rope.
If I were you, I'd probably try to dig up as much as possible around the tree with the tractor first, and then use the tractor to pull the stump. I think that a tree dug up to the roots, with the roots cut by axes or a saw, could be pulled out by a tractor even without blocks and ropes. Because when the roots are cut off, the tree holds on to the ground much weaker.
Since I also have loam, I also moistened the soil. But I poured it not into the holes, but like in a bathtub around the stump and left it for a few days, then the soil becomes exactly as it should be - not so dry that you can't put a shovel in it and not very wet, but only moist, softened.

Please do not give up and pull that stump. The wood is very soft but the root ball is stubborn ... but you are tenacious.

The top was moving a little bit (3") as you said the strap was telling you as it was poping that it was letting go at the eye. but you did good at learning about it...:)

Ideally the force from the tractor is applied directly to the stump.  More stretch in the system more wasted energy.   Attaching the pulley to a chain wrapped tree will minimize stretching.

Just subscribed.  Getting ready to pull dozens of alder/fir/cedar stumps to clear a home site and orchard.  Any chance you could post your preferred products? ie ropes, pulleys, etc?  I don't necessarily trust Amazon specials but also don't think I need crazy expensive snatch blocks like Crosby.

From my point of view if this can help you out, it`s not working because you've fastened the gear to low on the stump, you need a bigger ¨pry bar ¨ effect on the load.

Put you strap up higher on the stump. The higher it is on the stump the more leverage you put on the root ball. Low on the stump does not get enough leverage.

The way it looked like you tied the strap was creating a pinch point where you had a forward pull and a side pull. Basically you were exerting a lot of force to just rip the strap in two.  You need to have a better attaching method than that so that basically the two sides are more free to move so they can adjust themselves as needed as maximally as possible.

A basket hitch is much stronger than a choker. The working load limits should be on the strap.

If I don't have a tractor or truck to pull with, is it possible to pull with some type of come along 🤔. I see cable come along's with a 30 foot cable, which isn't even long enough 🤔

Need a force scale on the tractor pull to calc the pulling force...

I understand that I’m late to the party but I’d really like to see you put some dampeners on your rigging to minimize the reaction when/if your lines fail.

I wonder if each of the rhythmic cracking sounds were individual strands of the strap breaking

I can't help but wonder if the "knot" around the tree being under tension for so long, plus sunlight degradation, wasn't the cause of the strap failure. 🤔

How much force do you think was put on that stump?  Or better yet, the single strap?  Shouldn't the stump have multiple straps in a compound system since that is where compounding is focused?
