At 83yrs and Blessed to still be alive, I joined the Navy in 1961. My 1st Duty was a Destroyer out of Pearl Harbor. I recall how Every Naval Ship entering or Departing Pearl Harbor would ALWAYS RENDER HONORS TO THE SIGHT OF THE USS ARIZONA AS THE PASSED THE SITE OF HER. ❤

May the men who paid the ultimate price at Pearl Harbour rest in peace 🕊️

Those poor sailors on the Arizona died not knowing what or why they died, but we did get ‘em for you. Rest your souls.

My uncle a Pharmacist Mate 3rd class went down with the Arizona. Never Forget!

I can only imagine how painful it was for that survivor to relive that day...........you did good arizona survivor

The last survivor of USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor passed in April of 2024 so luckily we have their accounts on film.

This documentary is 10 years old.  All the Arizona crew are now deceased and there are only a few WW 2 vets left.

One of the saddest realities of the U.S.S. Arizona, is that, Hawaii was NOT a state when Pearl Harbor was attacked. After the war ended, the American Government REFUSED to pay to clean up Pearl Harbor, the reason given, it's not a state. Even after Hawaii was granted statehood, following the end of WWII, our Government still refused to pay for cleanup. Several years later, retired U.S. Army Soldier, and professional singer, song writer, and actor, Elvis Presley got wind of this, and performed his "Aloha From Hawaii" concerts, and donated EVERY penny of profit to the clean up, and turning the U.S.S. Arizona, into a memorial.

I was the paper boy at Pearl in 1961. I was delivering papers aboard a destroyer when the officer of the day told me. That the Admiral wanted me at the Ford island launch ASAP. I rode my bike down there and the place was packed with TV and newspaper crews. A Lieutenant saw me and told me to park my bike and follow him. They had a stage setup and some guy dressed as a cowboy and a beautiful woman were on stage. They put me on stage and told me to take some pictures with the dude. Newspaper, military papers and TV crews photographed me for a little bit. And they took me off stage and took me to the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet. My dad was with him. And they asked me how I like being photographed with Elvis. I said Elvis who. It seemed that Elvis came to do a benefit concert to raise money for the Arizona Memorial and they got me into some Pearl PR pictures with him. They took me home, made me take a bath  and put on a suit and shoes with sox. I was only nine years old and was dragged to the concert and made to sit next to Priscilla who smelled funny. I've heard Elvis before but paid no attention to him. I took the launch out to Ford Island daily to deliver papers. And it went right next to the memorial construction. Which I saluted daily at nine years old.

My uncle, I never met, died and was entombed there on the Arizona the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. When my father was alive, he spoke a lot about him. Dad was 10 years younger than his brother. I had the opportunity to visit the memorial when I was in the Navy in the early seventies and in later years again when I was serving in the Merchant Marine. Both times I was there, the park ranger let me get behind the rope to momentarily to take a picture with me alongside my uncle's name on the wall. Both photos I originally gave as gifts to my father, but they I've been hanging my house since my dad passed away in 2010.

"American fighter jets trying to chase the attackers." How on earth did this line stay in the final cut

To all the men who served abroad the USS Arizona may you all rest in peace.

40 minutes of story - 9 minutes of exploring the Arizona.

I think Ens. "Bud" Weeden may have been my father's Annapolis classmate in their senior year.  My father's nickname was "Bud" also and as I would later experience during my days in the fleet, the Navy likes to lump similar things together, so it would make perfect sense that they would put two "Buds" in the same room.  More than that, although my father rarely spoke of Pearl Harbor, I recall him once mentioning his former room mate, "Bud".  Both "Buds", upon graduating from Annapolis, went to their respective commands as junior gunnery officers (Dad went to the USS Phoenix, CL-46, while "Bud" Weeden went to the USS Arizona).  During the attack, both "Buds" were in their respective ship's Sky Forward, spotting attacking aircraft.  Dad had 20/15 vision (at Annapolis, they called him the "Human Range Finder") so he could clearly see the high-level horizontal bombers as they came lumbering in three-aircraft V-formations up battleship row.  Dad kept directing his AA battery (starboard) on the horizontal bombers, only to be countermanded by Phoenix's gunnery officer who redirected the battery to the torpedo aircraft that were making their attack runs down South East Loch.  Dad said that everyone in sky forward saw the formation that got the Arizona and knew it meant trouble.  There was just something about it...perfect approach, perfect altitude, nice tight formation, unerring course.  Everyone knew it was TROUBLE.  When the Arizona's forward magazine detonated, Dad said he watched what he approximated as a ten-ton foreplate assembly from one of the forward turrets go sailing across the harbor like a cork out of a pop gun.  You can see it at 46:02.  Dad thought "Thank God I'm not in Bud's shoes", and went back to plotting firing solutions.  I'm pretty sure the Bud dad was referring to was Ens. Weeden.  May God rest their souls.

Arizona is the second of two ships in the Pennsylvania class battleship.  Her sister, USS Pennsylvania was across from battleship row in dry dock during the attack (she is resting off Kwajalein after serving as a target during Operation Crossroads).

Not sure why the narrator said 'American fighter jets' tried to chase the attackers when there were no jets in 1941.

Let's see the exploration then!

The fact that the IJN didnt hit our oil storage facilities and our dry docks was a miracle for the U.S..

When my Father was stationed in Hawaii I had many opportunities to visit the USS Arizona and every time it was a very somber atmosphere.

The contemporary film footage is incredible..
