The 10 Items I Took on ALONE Season 13… And Why

Andrew Thomas Price

With Alone Season 13 taking place in the Canadian Arctic Circle, contestants only get 10 items to survive one of the harshest environments on Earth. In this video, I break down the gear choices that give the best chance of winning, compare them to the actual contestant loadouts, and explain why certain items are nearly mandatory for long-term survival.

A well-considered list of solid tools with multiple uses in the harsh arctic environment - thanks for sharing these with us!

Best snare wire I’ve ever found is Christmas wreath wire it’s green and a spool of it weighs almost nothing In Maine we make a lot of the commercial Christmas wreaths so it’s always around

Thanks for posting and explaining your 10 items! I have been an avid fan of Alone and been following you since around your A-Z of Bushcraft Series. Looking forward to this season. Cheers mate!

Andrew, I truly enjoyed watching you on Alone. Your story about being difficult on your dad really moved me. Good for you for coming to that realization. I was very impressed by your politeness, knowledge & hard work. Bless you and thank you for your presence in the show. Wishing you the best for the rest of your life. If you ever come to Ontario Canada, I’d love to meet you.

it would be interesting to hear the outcome, if you would take the same 10 items again or what you learned from the experience! Awesome!

That's one for the CV Andrew haven't watched it yet but chomping at the bit now to get it on the history channel I think alone is the gold standard for survival so to take part is incredible well done

I’m in the uk. Me and my wife can’t wait for it to be aired here! I wish you the very best Andrew!! It seems you made it back in one piece which is always a concern of mine for every contestant. I hope everyone does well regardless of nationality. I’m sure wales and the uk will be proud of your achievements.

Really wish i had the means to watch this series of Alone Andrew, great to see a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧 in it. I’ve not watched Alone since the original series really when Alan Kay deservedly won it.
You’re obviously very capable and i hope you do yourself proud. Hope you win it 👍🏻

A well thought out selection of gear.
👍🏼👍🏼
I enjoy seeing what other folks carry in the bush and the reasoning behind it.
I don’t think I could do it without a fixed blade knife though. I just feel naked in the bush without a belt knife.
I would think the multi-tool is essential if you choose snare wire, so I would have to leave out the saw or the axe….. I would probably take a large chopper and a saw.

I’m waiting for them to have an “Old Geezer Season” of Alone before I apply. Where all the contestants are over 65 years old.
I was encouraged to apply when the show first started, but couldn’t afford to take the time off.

It's a good list insofar it's hard to argue against their usefulness. Those contestants who score big kills are more able to manage their energy levels and increase their odds of winning. It's pretty ballsy to do the show inside the Canadian Arctic Circle. I'm looking forward to watching it.

I might consider trading the axe for a kukri. Fiskars makes one with a saw blade on the back with a sheath. Replace the folding saw with a folding shovel/pick and sharpen an edge of the shovel. The shovel can also be used as another pan.

I think it was an excellent choice and I couldn't actually think of anything else. I think you got it spot on

Awesome stuff, I've only seen Alone Season 1 when it was first out, watched it because of Joe Robinet. I didn't realise how popular it would become. S13, I have to do some catching up!

you can use layers of snow, dampend so that it will "pack" or layers of dampened small debris, to make a wonderfually warm and dry shelter. You need to realize that you need one very small shelter for sleeping, and another much larger, much less warm, shelter for when you need to be active but the weather is bad. it can be 20+F degrees colder and be active than when you need to sleep, or at least, rest and burn minimal calories.

if you have no fish in your part of the lake, it is possible to bait them to you from afar. Create a "chumine' of small bags of tarp and tape, one every 20m, with a few small holes to let out the scent/taste of fish guts, make a pontoon and sapling raft and stretch that line 1/4 mile or more out into the lake. a bit of hook and line fishing will tell you in which direction to 'aim" the chum line.

there is a simple game that can entertain you in a very small shelter. Make a bark or grass container, maybe 1/qt in size, Put it down by your feet and lay on your back. Toss acorns, pebbles, whittled wooden cylinders, at the container, with your weak-side hand. when you almost never miss overhand, try underhand, then side arm. You'll be making yourself ambidextrous. After you get really good all 3 ways, try it while using your non-master eye. To determine which eye is master, make the "OK" sign and "aim " it at a small object 3m away. Move that hand close to your eye, while keeping the object inside of the "o" of your forefinger and thumb. it will end-up in front of your master eye.
