1. Change oil every 5,000 miles instead of 7,000, use full synthetic oil, not conventional.
2. Don't ignore carbon buildup. Use top-tier brands of gasoline with added detergents in them, i.e. Shell, Chevron, Mobil, and Costco. And every 5,000 miles add a bottle of fuel cleaner like Chevron Techron or CRC GDI 4D cleaner. Also, take your Mazda on a 20-minute highway drive once a week pushing the RPM's to 4,000 RPM to create heat for a few seconds. The high heat helps to burn up the carbon deposits before they harden and become permanent.
3.Service your Auto Transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, maximum. Always use genuine Mazda ATFZ fluid. Do a drain and fill, not a flush which can dislodge deposits that you don't want dislodged.
4. For manual transmissions, use GL4 fluid every 30,000 miles.
5. Replace spark plugs every 60,000 miles.
6. Service the cooling system every 60,000 miles
7. Inspect and replace brake fluid.
8. Replace your Cabin and Engine air filters every 15,000 miles
9. Monitor and address oil consumption. Check oil level every other gas fill up. Replace the PCV valve every 60,000 miles.
10. Protect the undercarriage from rust, especially states that use salt in winter. Inspect at least twice/year and wash salt off quickly.
11. Maintain a detailed service log. Every time you perform maintenance, write it down. Record the date, mileage and what you did.
