Quick comment pin because of a bit of a wording mistake I made/wasn't as clear as I mean it to be. When I said "She would have blood on her hands" That is fully from HER perspective, not that she would actually have blood on her hands.

Just that she could feel as though her actions would cause her to have blood on her hands, hence the hesitation. Not that her giving into his demands or ignoring them would put blood on her hands.

Hi, certified medical coder here. That hospital should be sued into the ground. We are explicitly taught that medical facilities and providers are NOT allowed to do procedures or treatments just to get a payout. I don't know exactly if it would be considered fraud (i'm very new at this), but it is😢 definitely unethical and warrants investigation.

Story 1 is actual fucking evil. Thats not healthcare, It's holding vulnerable people for RANSOM against their insurance.

hey. for all the people out here who may be reading this. if ur in an abusive relationship and they threaten to kill themselves. even if you do leave and they DO kill themselves  that is NOT your fault. that is NOT blood on ur hands. mental illness isnt their fault but it IS there responsibility.

4:29 SUE FOR EVERY SINGLE CENT. This just caused OP's wife more trauma and very likely PTSD. They are being so illegal.

Story 2 is insane to me, does the mom not know that “declawing” isn’t just cutting a cat’s nails but rather cutting off part of its toes? If it was done on a human it’s like cutting off fingers at the first knuckle. There’s a reason why the practice is banned in some US states and even in some countries.

ahh yes just what a suicidal person needs, total isolation and depersonalization

1- WHAT THE ACTUAL F! 3:20 this is 100% one of those “ facilities” that do involuntary commitment so they can overcharge insurance!

I love how the healthcare system's response to someone being mentally unwell is to punish them extremely harshly for it. Especially separating a new mother with ppd from her family. What the fuck is wrong with them

Normalize telling children no and letting them grieve/feel negative emotions

Oh my fucking god I hope the OP of story 1 took that facility to court. What monstrous fucking behavior.

Story 2: OP’s sister is doing a great job at ensuring her daughter will never be able to handle rejection

There’s an old short story called “The Yellow Wallpaper” that is about a woman in a rather similar circumstance to OP’s wife in the first story. She’s isolated from everyone and stuck with PPD. She ends up going insane by the end of the story. But this was a story from the 19th century. Have we really not evolved past that? Isolation, especially when it’s a postpartum parent and their baby, is the exact opposite of what you’re supposed to do!

The same thing happened to a friend of my husband's. They asked if he wanted to die. He said he did, but he wasn't planning on acting on those thoughts. Took a month to get released. Now my husband won't even seek mental help despite being a firefighter for 17 years and knowing he could use it.

(And before anyone asks, my husband IS NOT VIOLENT. The only time you could claim he was he was physically defending me from another person and calmed down as soon as I called his name. I know I and my children are safe around him.)

Story 1 is so damn scary, I was so worried for the wife. This is literally punitive psychiatry, just with an extortion flavour. Gross. I hope OP sues that place into the ground.

The abuse and mistreatment that can occur at psychiatric hospitals is horrible. Some can be great and genuinely helpful for the people that need it. But a lot of them are underfunded and terribly operated. When I was a teenager, I refused to tell anyone about the worst of my depressive symptoms because the hospitals in my town are horrible. One of them is pretty bad, but the other one is downright abusive. I'm not going to go into detail about the shit that they put people through but believe me when I say it's bad. I was terrified of being committed, so I kept quiet. I'm incredibly lucky I had the support system I did because otherwise I don't think I'd be here today.

So this is actually one of the reasons I quit working for a company that is owned by Acadia Healthcare. They were sued and settled for 20 mil for this exact thing. They train their employees on how to notate where it reads as the patient is unstable and needing further observation. They changed meds last second to keep people for longer. They understaffed so badly there were multiple suicides on their watch. I am disgusted that I was ever even tangentially associated with that company.

Postpartum depression can be treated with therapy, not that. The hospital can be not only sued but be under investigation for that. Literally all she needs is a professional to talk to and to not be alone just to be extra safe.

Having intrusive thoughts doesn’t make you a bad person, acting on them will make you one

Edit: I don’t think they have a license to even operate and if so, wtf?

Story two: that child is going to be an entitled person. A cat is a responsibility and wanted a cat who was declawed is just horrible. Claws are a cats first line of defense

i was involuntarily committed for... i think four days following an attempt in october, and even though nothing bad happened, it was incredibly traumatic. these facilities are not built to help you, they are built to keep you contained for an arbitrary amount of time.

A part of me feels bad for the niece in story 2... Obviously not because of her not getting to keep the cat but because of how her parents are failing to teach her how to deal with not always getting her way. The mother had a great opportunity to explain that the cat is not hers but OP's, yet she chose to see OP as the villain for not being willing to give up her own pet. All she's learnt from the situation is that her aunt is mean for taking "her cat". It's absolutely bizarre that so many people actually agreed with OP's sister, I'm glad at least OPs mother seems to have come around by the time of the update. Also, with the way that family acts I honestly hope they never get a pet because it doesn't sound like they'd give any potential pets the attention and care they need.
