Great video Cliff - the Hatch bipod can actually get a little lower than you showed. You can throw it out in prone position, but have the legs angle out at the 45 degree angle and it gets you about 3 inches lower. Watch the video from the guys at Hatch on their YouTube channel and they show how. I bought that bipod based on your recommendation and love it! Took an elk last fall from the seated position with it

After 20 years of hunting I have ditched the bipod. First I find it snags branches, my pack and slowes the deployment of the rifle from my carry. Next it takes too long to faff around to set up the bipod when ready to make a shot. I either use my treking pole shot can happen in less than 5 seconds, or from of my pack or a log/rock. Stable and makes up about 90% of my shots. Tripods are too fiddly for my taste. I think a perfect prone possition happends maybe once every 5 years and my pack frame would still be faster than flipping the tipod legs down. Just what works for me...

I've run a Harris for 20 years. At the range, all over the west, South Africa, they haven't let me down yet.

Shooting sticks for the field, a bi-pod for the bench

Excellent tutorial. When I moved to Arizona I bought a Ruger American 270 to hunt elk. I thought I would be taking longer distance shots than I would have for deer hunting in Missouri. So, with longer distance, I figured I needed a bipod to hold steadier. Well 10 years later and 4 elk down I have not used the bipod. Every shot has been from the standing position but one I was able to brace against a tree. My bipod does not detach easily so I carry the extra weight on my rifle. Actually, the only time I use the bipod is when I check zero my rifle prior to a hunt. I was just thinking I would take it off and not use it period. I could always check zero using my backpack. Now, you got me thinking about the bipod which will let me sit to shoot. Darn! Now I am going have to spend more money to make my elk meat cost even more per pound. By the way, the longest elk shot I have made in Arizona is about 80 yards. I could have used my 30-30 Marlin lever action that I bought over 60 years ago when I was 15.

When it was legal in PA for fall turkey I used the longer bipod with a 22-250 and it was sweet!!!

One thing you can do with the wiser precision trekking pole adapters is remove the stop screws so they can swing out to any position you want without hitting the stops. This allows quicker and finer height adjustments without having to extend the trekking poles. This works more like traditional shooting sticks. Swing them out further to get lower, together more to raise your rifle.

Spartan Springbok fits in the pocket in front of my pack and between my shoulder blades. Then the pro hunt fits in my bino harness pocket. I can deploy either in seconds. Absolutely love the Spartan system.

Pack laid flat for prone. Pack standing up or tripod for seated. When seated whatever one you're not using for the front, or a trekking pole, can be used for rear support. I also like the LS Wild ultra light bags. Can use them for rear support when prone or lay them on a log or your tripod to use up front. The main thing is to practice these positions a lot before you actually get into the field.

I just ordered the tricer-RP I saw it at western hunt expo it looks a good competitor to the MDT cyke pod for 1/3 of the price

After over 4 Decades of Hunting and using Bipods and Shooting Sticks I’ve found that the walking/shooting Sticks seem to work so much better. The Bipod attached to your Rifle is Rock Solid in most cases but the Bog standing Stocks are Damn near there and a Hell of a lot quicker to get on that Target and way South of the Price of an Atlas or MDT… I still use the Harris is was issued in 1991 and it’s still going strong but I find I use the little Magpul wobbly one I pinned so it wouldn’t cant more often for some reason and those swagger bungee sticks work well also if you shorten the tubing to accommodate the weight of your Rifle. Stability is the most Paramount however you can get it and get to it quickly and it doesn’t weigh 10 freaking pounds. Stay safe Guys. S.F. 3/6

Great video. Answered a lot of questions I have had for years. Your information was fresh and new. Not just a rehash of someone’s else’s opinions. Thanks

Every time I try a bipod, I end up reverting back to shooting sticks or trekking poles, depending on the situation. Great advice, sir.

Spartan All day long, works with a magnet so you can take it off when slinging and does't dig into your shoulder. Couple different sets of legs that you can use depending on the hunt, prone, sitting, or standing, and light weight. Made out of Carbon fiber and aerospace magnets. Love it, won't even consider another.

I just ended up getting me the MTD onyx QD for my occasional bench sessions then when I go hunting I throw a net of shooting sticks on my bag that I made out of green aluminum garden rods.
