After being deposed, Abdul Hamid II lived for another 8 years and 9 months. He spent those years in two houses, guarded at the door, and cut off from the world.
For 32 years and seven months, all the news of this country came to him first. He established the newsroom system, he knew before anyone else what each governor wrote, and which newspaper would publish which sentence. Then, one night, he was deposed and sent to Thessaloniki. During the three and a half years he spent in the Alatini Mansion, he was not given a single newspaper, nor was he allowed to see anyone. We don't know today when he heard that they had lost a continent.
In this video, we recount the exile years of Abdul Hamid II from beginning to end. The video covers the events of March 31st, the subsequent deposition, why his name wasn't mentioned in the fatwa that deposed him, his journey to Thessaloniki and the five conditions he put forward there, the twelve notebooks of military physician Atıf Hüseyin Bey who recorded every day for nine years, the single question he asked when the Balkan War broke out, his final years in Beylerbeyi Palace, and his death on February 10, 1918.
Everything narrated has been verified from both Turkish and foreign sources. Not a single detail from memoirs definitively deemed not to be his has been used; we explain why this is important in the video.
On the "History for Sleep" channel, history is told calmly and without fabrication. Whether you close your eyes and listen, or sit and watch, it's up to you.
