I've never had success with using water. Just the usual polish seemed to get things very satisfactory.

After the severity of Renomat I thought you might have treated the leather to some Renovateur before applying polish.

I snagged 2 pairs of tan coloured shoes that I believed was leather one turned out via researching the printed info is faux leather and the other pair wide brogue patterning I’m not certain either way I can grumble as both pairs usable I could re dye em polish em so I’m saving my saphir polish etc for garaunteed high end quality brand names and will just use generic for uncertain footwear

I find after brushing a microfiber cloth & warm breath gives a better shine than just the brush alone

Interestingly you skipped the Renovateur and black shoe creme phases. For old shoes I always do these before applying wax polish. And then Mirror shine.
