Love this format. Not a lot of fanfare, just talking about old machines. Looking forward to this unit getting turned up and running. Thank you for the video and your sharing.
Last year I had to scrap the 24”x14’ Cincinnati Planer Co planer that had been in service in our shop since 1950 due to downsizing. Had a Bridgeport head on it for keying big shafts. Worked great. Hated to see it go. (And, don’t tell dad, but I put a cup wheel on the milling head, and did a little grinding)
A planer in your business is a good think to have. Single point planing tables and saddles for rebuild IMHO is a much better way to machine cast iron parts. Grinding however with an old planer I have never encountered, It should work, I have seen people mount milling heads to them and make a planer mill that works, so grinding should as well. I am very interested in this project. sounds interesting.
A planer! How cool is that? Way to go! Time will tell if you can resist the temptation to do a KV on the planer and totally rebuild it. What did Rucker do, 87 weeks on his planer rebuild? Hope you get way more use out of your planer than he gets. Congratulations and envy ..
Dude that’s so sick! i’ve been trying to find one for a minute now. I found a smaller planer but the bed was missing. What a heart breaker it was. It’ll happen at some point but i dream til then lol.
