Until 1966, the Rotterdamsche Tramweg Maatschappij maintained an extensive meter-gauge network of steam and motor trams on the islands of Zeeland and South Holland. Fortunately, a large number of vehicles from the very varied fleet were saved; until 1988, they stood in and around the former tram station of Hellevoetsluis, running on a museum line of several kilometers reconstructed by volunteers. Today, we find the RTM in an area where trams did not run in the past: the Brouwersdam near Port Zélande, where an entirely new tram line with a station and depot/workshop has been built.
Part 1 - STEAM TRACTION
The steam traction consists largely of the original RTM corporate film from 1929, made by Willy Mullens. This truly fantastic film first shows a brief overview of the RTM company history and the buildings currently in use. Furthermore, extensive attention is paid to passenger and freight traffic on the lines from Rotterdam to Zierikzee, Oostvoorne, and Flakkee by tram, bus, and boat, particularly livestock and general cargo transport.
