This is a movable-do solfege version of a jazz standard, created for sight-singing, ear training, and jazz improvisation practice.
Movable-Do Solfege:
Major key → tonic = Do
Minor key → tonic = La
The chromatic syllables used are shown in the video.
──────────
Notes:
The vocal may be sung in a different octave from the written melody.
Solfege syllables are intentionally not written on the score.
The aim is to recognize each note’s function directly from the notation rather than simply reading syllable names.
Chord symbols are intentionally shown in light gray to keep the visual focus on the melody.
The backing track may occasionally use different chords from those shown in the score.
Some ornaments may be omitted to make the melody easier to sing.
When the key signature changes, the solfege syllables follow the new key.
──────────
Suggested Practice Routine:
1. First, listen closely until you can sing the melody without solfege syllables. You can hum it or sing it on a neutral syllable such as “ah.”
2. Once you can sing the melody comfortably, add the solfege syllables as if they were the lyrics.
3. If you play an instrument, try playing the melody while singing the solfege syllables.
4. Use the playback speed controls to gradually increase the tempo.
Don’t wait for perfection before moving on to the next tune. Keep coming back, stay consistent, and think long term.
Good luck!
