The secondary of the IF output is different than the intermittent stages coils because that output secondary is to match the low impedance of the detector diode. Other stages work into a high impedance grid of a tube
Hi Tony, i know this is an old video, however at 58 minutes in i see your one can is C4 - 40/40/40/40 with 450v manufactured by CE. In the service manual it shows as C4 - 40/40/40/20. Its ok to up the one Cap to 40? I have the same 500 mono and and learning from this video. Both multisection caps i have are shot, and want to ensure i can use the same as you did? Please provide your thoughts. Thanks.
Snip coil wires from old lugs, heat lugs with soldering iron and pull old lugsout with pliers, silver touching tabs will come out with lugs .discard old lugs and replace with cotter pin shaped solid copper wire,JB weld in place in bottom, reconnect coil and put new capacitor under chassis
Tony, excellent video! Thank you for your great explanation on these electronics. I've been learning these old fisher's for a couple of years now. Two 500-c's and a 800-c. I really enjoy this as a hobby and the learning that goes along with it. Thanks again for all the awesome videos. ππ
Hello Tony!! It's impressive to see so much dedication to how these things were done in the past. And even more impressive is to see your work. Congratulations!!!
my thoughts but shouldn't you adjust the cores to the center of travel before you measure the inductance of the coil and calculate the capacitor value?? wouldn't this help prevent you from reaching the top or bottom before peaking?
5:28 It'd be a wider sweep than that, as AM signals get up to 5kHz. As such, the sweep range is probably more like 440kHz to 470kHz, to give a good 15kHz either side of the IF frequency.
Great video. I have the same rf generator. Those old hp generators are great I have the sister function generator also. I have been using these for a very long time no problems
Has anyone copied the FISHER 500 chassis using 1V heater Vacuum tubes and a B+ of 45-60V so it can be run of a PSU giving 1V for the heater and 20-60V or so it can be 1D Cell and and 4x12V car batteries for use down on the beach.
