We are exploring the billion-dollar Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles to see if it lives up to the hype. George Lucas spent nearly 20 years and about $1 billion of his own money building the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, and we finally walked inside. Spoiler: this is NOT a Star Wars museum. We're taking you through the whole 700-foot "spaceship" of a building and its galleries. We found a Picasso comic strip, original Where the Wild Things Are watercolors, E. H. Shepard's Winnie-the-Pooh, Frida Kahlo, the Frank Frazetta painting the original Star Wars poster riffs on, and a whole gallery of Banksy.

And yes, we found the Star Wars: Luke's screen-used X-34 Landspeeder, Imperial Speeder Bikes, Podracers, Doug Chiang and McQuarrie concept art, and General Grievous's Wheel Bike. But something about the tags on these displays left us with questions, and we get honest about what Star Wars fans should expect before making the pilgrimage. Plus the reproduced Sistine Chapel ceiling, lunch at Skywalker Grill, the free Research Library with Joseph Campbell's personal books, and the 13-acre sculpture garden with Yoda, Grogu, Padme and Leia in bronze. Facts: Even major museums use reproductions and collector loans. If George Lucas used replicas because originals weren't available, it doesn't change a thing. It’s his vision, his museum, and his story! (Sometimes reproductions are used to protect incredibly fragile or light-sensitive originals).

As far as billionaire vanity projects go, this is probably one of the best ones in this decade. Can't go wrong with the classic museum in a billionaire's name! Better than phallic rockets and gold-leaf statues and triumphal arches. 🙄 🤣 In all seriousness though, it looks like a fantastic collection! I'll have to visit it someday.

I mean yes, this is not "THE Star Wars Museum" the most people are expecting. But as a "Museum of Narrative Art" done by one of the absolute masters of this art, this is wonderful!

I came here to say ‘It’s Carl Barks” , someone already mentioned it …but I’ll add, The “duck books’ by Barks, written and drawn from the 1940’s -1960’s were super important to Lucas and Spielberg growing up. Their generation LOVED Carl Barks comics!! Lucas wrote the forward to one of the Carl Barks collection books. There is a series with hidden temples and treasures which directly influenced the Indy movies. So “Ducktales” is drawn from the Barks’ world. We have him to Thank for Scrooge McDuck. These books are considered some of the best drawn, most influential comics of all time. WIll Eisner, Art Spiegelman, Osama Tezuka, Matt Groening, R . CRumb, Jeff Smith….. all grew up loving Carl Barks. I highly recommend checking them out. and the Mickey comics were drawn by Floyd Gottfredson. Also, super important. Both cartoonists gave Donald, Mickey and Goofy… and many of the classic characters entire worlds and adventures beyond the cartoons. And the art is killer. Since you two love Disney and Lucas, and grew up on Ducktales you might love reading some. The museum has been highly anticipated by illustrators and cartoonists like me. I live near the Norman Rockwell Museum in MA and Lucas and Spielberg have been instrumental in THAT museum. I have wondered how many pieces we would loose to the west coast. I hear the art will go back and forth. I hope to make it out there next Spring when my next children’s book comes out. Thanks for the video!!! I always enjoy your enthusiasm and geek outs. So forgive mine!

Hey, Ordinary Adventures! I watch most your videos, they are like a comfort food for me, but I don't usually comment. I wanted to leave a comment here though, because it was different than usual and very much cool for that. I appreciated the honest and nuanced take on the museum's collection and its presentation, the criticism was on point and refreshingly in-depth in comparison to your usual content. I really loved that and would like to see more of the approach, even though understandably most videos you do are more entertainment-prioritized. I think Peter's academic and pre-OrdAdv background really shined in this video, and hopefully we get the opportunity to see more of that in the future.
