Time for my quarterly safety briefing for an industry I’m not a part of

The number of times I make some dumb mistake and mumble  “But the CSB found the process safety control measures were inadequate” cannot be overstated

When I make mistakes, I hear this narrators voice in my head.

Can we give a shout-out to Abbott Animation for their outstanding work, incredible renders, textures and that flame front animation!!

Dust?! Again?! I thought we talked about this over a decade ago!

Two people at Didion were convicted of falsifying records in 2024 in connection to this explosion, Derrick Clark the VP of operations and Shawn Mesner, the food safety/technical superintendent. They’re both serving two year sentences.

I work here. At this location, as a corn miller. They rebuilt it with tons of built in sensors and explosion reliefs now. We have super strict processes on cleaning and safety as well.

Genuine fact: mentioning these videos to my employer and saying how good they are have got me on a path to being a H&S manager, and I think that’s really cool.

This channel is both what the government and the internet should be.

I sincerely hope everyone who worked on this video or is part of the USCSB, is doing great.
The animation team yet again made a stunningly good animation and 3d model, the writers yet again made an extremely well made script, the narrator yet again made an awesome voice-over, and, of course, the USCSB yet again investigated everything in minute detail to uncover the real reason of the explosion and prevent future accidents.
It is hard to put into words just how well-made everything about these videos is.

I'm not American nor do I live in the states, I'm compelled to thank the whole CSB production team for making these very informative videos, and making them freely available for viewers outside the states. You're doing great work and contributing to society. Be proud, fellas.

This is the best produced CSB video by far though. The simulations?! Dust AND fire AND cloth AND volumetric fog?! The textures!? Holy hell is dust explosive but also y'all animators COOKED with this. Keep up the amazing work CSB.

8:47 it makes me smile to see that a USCSB recommendation was actually followed

I serviced the copy machines at this place up to it blowing up.
Every time I went in there the dust in the building concerned the absolute hell out of me.
Every day I regret not contacting OSHA about it.

I work in a large corn mill in Missouri. The example at Didion was drilled into us during the orientation process, and we have an entire sanitation team dedicated to cleaning up the mill and especially combustable dust hazards. For the size of their mill, having only a single filter is INSANE. We have 4 filters running our B Mill (our secondary mill) and it’s a quarter the size of the Didion mill. Then our primary mill has 8 filters just for itself. Not to mention the filters we have for independent processes we can start up and stop when necessary.
