I’ll show you step by step how to turn a motorcycle GPS unit costing just €60–80 into a fully functional boat plotter, complete with a 7" touchscreen, full sunlight readability, and waterproof protection—capable of competing with much more expensive premium-brand devices.
This DIY project works not only as a navigation plotter, but also as a multifunction display (MFD) that you can install at the mast base so your entire crew can see whatever data you want during cruising or racing. On top of that, you can use it for:
✔ Viewing onboard cameras
✔ Controlling your Raspberry Pi from an outdoor touchscreen
✔ Operating it with gloves and in the rain
✔ Navigating in tough conditions thanks to its motorcycle-grade construction
