Either astrology is bullshit and you’re unfairly judging people by their birthday, or it is real, and you believe you’re entitled to private information??
Pie charts are the bane of my fvcking existence. It says FUCKALL ANYTHING IT'S USELESS FOR DATA EXPLORATION IT'S USELESS FOR PRESENTATION IT LEADS TO FALSE CAUSALITES IT'S UNINTUITIVE IT'S USELESS GET RID OF ALL PIE CHARTS #PIESNOTPIECHARTS
I think I’m more skeptical, analytical, and stoic than the cancer stereotype. I think I am very sensitive, but it’s more like I’m deeply anxious and afraid. I seem to experience a limited range of emotions. I am terrible at picking up on the nuances of communication and emotion, and need people to be totally direct and say what they mean. I am not family oriented, am only in communication with my mother with whom I don’t get along, and I’ve always struggled to make friends and haven’t been able to in real life. My mother is also a cancer, but we are so different from one another, it’s as though we are aliens from different universes
Not to mention that if everyone has to disclose their star chart, that's violating age nondiscrimination rules.
Man, if I had to pretend to respect someone trying to put me in a nonsense astrology box at work, that would be the opposite of a psychologically safe environment for me. And if I react honestly, they're gonna feel ~ psychologically unsafe ~. Infuriating.
I looked up my birth chart for fun and OH MY GOD is it hilariously off the mark. I was laughing the entire time. It didn’t get a single aspect of my personality correct, and many of the things it stated were actually the direct opposite of my personality. So funny
I have done interviews in the past. And I'm an odd dude. The job I did that, we worked with the homeless. A LOT of mental things, and just some shenanigans all around. SO yes I will throw you a strange question with the explicit purpose of catching you off guard to gauge your reaction. Because some of these costumers are incredibly invasive and sometimes dangerous, and I need to know you can stay civil when you are off your game. Because in the streets of DC they aren't going to ask you nicely if they can start doing something inappropriate, and As an interviewer I would like a window of your worst so I know that you wont get snarky around a patients who has some mental problems. The homeless are a demographic that are very vulnerable and I need to make sure I work with people that understand that. But if you can't handle that then public service may not be the right job for you. And that's okay! It's why we have interviews. But as someone who is a very strange plank of wood. What i described is very different than this person. And you so eloquently pointed out, this dude gets off on the idea of having knowledge they (probably) shouldn't have and likes the idea of being able to weaponize it against people they deem as lesser that. It's predatory behavior.
Regarding Myers Briggs at work: Generally the bosses see the results, so people will be trying to influence the outcome to say what the employer wants, not what they personally want. And people do use conscious bias in hiring, promotion and pay rise decisions. Having been a manager, I know that managers are specifically trained to increase their biases and make them more conscious, so they can apply them more systematically. I also heard people talking about using them consciously and intentionally.
It is generally not acceptable to ask for birthdates in hiring due to age being a protected class. Becky is trying to instruct her little followers into lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit...
Honestly even scientifically validated personality tests to me seem like they would have a hard time predicting something as specific as "personality distribution in this specific office". Science is a numbers game, and any small sample can just include a bunch of outliers. Anyone looking at my Big 5 Personality scores would not predict my current profession and would indeed advise me to not pursue it. Because people have self-determination and free will and are also more complex than whatever model you're using to understand them.
Also even if you try to go "well it can be a shortcut to explaining individual differences" I'd call bullshit on that. Astrology stereotypes are so broad and varied than I'd say it would just muddy the waters. Not to mention all the Scorpio, Capricorn and Aries discrimination we'd see. Or whatever other signs are declared to be fuckbois.
Looking up the study you start mentioning at around 18/19 min was painful. It was easy to find but the pseudoscientisn’ts have written so many slop articles that I have to wade through regardless of search engine. Imagine if these passionate people had devoted themselves to learning something real. That would have been nice.
I'm a Leo. Confident, gregarious, strong leader, charismatic... Absolutely not. I'm an anxious, awkward mess with an inferiority complex. Maybe I could have been all those things, but everything that has happened to me since being born matters a whole lot more than where the planets and stars happened to be on the day I was born.
