Doing a major re-working of 2 lines in 15 hours overnight. There’s no way we would have that many people or that much dedication to a piece of work - they’d shut the whole line for a weekend instead 😂😬

Damn that brought back memories! I spent over 30 years working on the Underground and most of it as a station supervisor at Finsbury park and had the privilege to work with some of the best people you could ever hope to meet.

Well presented, intelligent explanation for all ages without talking to us as if we're six years old. Good work.

I always remember coming down the spiral staircase when changing from a Hertford train to the tube

this cross platform interchange is the MVP of the North Lnd Blue lines.
The Balloon mosaics need a proper cleaning, but they are wonderful.
They really should bring in escalators here for access. It's such a small series of lifts that are a maze to and from the train platforms to under ground to outside. for such a buys and important station it needs more accessibility.

When I worked for LT in the 1960s I remember spending a morning in a car park there, where they were drilling a large hole down to the tube tunnel in order to check any effect on the tunnel lining. At this time LT was worried about the deep foundations which would be required for the tall buildings that were beginning to appear.

I noticed on the southbound Victoria Line platform at Finsbury Park (also the southbound Victoria Line at Highbury & Islington,  which too is an ex-Moorgate line platform, the brick ceiling finishes,  rather than the standard Victoria Line panelling. (It looks like they started to panel the ceiling at Highbury, but stopped after just a few panels). The Northern City Line finishes are obviously at least as good as  anything they  could come up with later on!

Siddy talking about the Holloway station :)

Interesting and informative, as usual....your enthusiasm for the subject is most evident. Many thanks!

Great video. You have such an amazing job!

A very interesting presentation which reminds me of the "Blue Peter" style from the 1960s. Narrated very pleasantly and dare I say a hint of Nordic in with the impeccable BBC English!

Two points of interest.

The northern city tunnels north of the station were extended along the route of the forthcoming Victoria line some time before the construction of the Victoria line as I understood it for experimental development in advance of the construction.

Shallow tunnels mentioned at the start of your excellent piece.

During reconstruction and replacement of bridge 16 on the ecml just above the shallow tunnels.
London Underground realised very late that the jacking and lifting of the spans above the tunnels might compromise the tunnels.
The bridge works were postponed very late on the evening of the work and crews stood down, at enormous expense and the works postponed for a considerable time until monitoring systems were in place.

Sometime please mention the steel structure that was built to the east of the station to carry the Ncl lines northwards to the proposed flyover to Stroud Green and Alexandra palace

Well done Siddy another good video and good to see Nixy in there with you.
Marc in Bletchley

Great vid and, in my opinion, much enhanced by the exclusion of the other two "presenters" from LTM who are usually used.

Two beautiful pieces of art, and next to each other!!

It's Krapy Rubsnif, of course.

The Lift Shafts at Finsbury Park appear interesting. Some are new.  The Northern City Line apparently had four, two went out of use/ converted to spiral staircases and two later not renewed in the very early 1920s. Likewise the Piccadilly Line brought 4 lifts , to a similar hydraulic operating system with again two out of action pre 1920 and two just after.  This left for many years the short staircases down to the running tunnel platforms of the services

1:45  I was at fbk a few days ago and my mum was telling me how much she loves that mosaic and that she remembers when it was made😂

Love these programmes and videos!

Thank you
