About the rules and the reservation system, I can see how that feels like a hassle, especially if you're used to parks with more open access. But Baxter’s a different story. The park exists because Governor Percival Baxter donated the land, and he did it with one clear condition: that it be kept “forever wild.”
Those rules aren’t just red tape but just how the park keeps that promise. Limited development, no trash cans, parking reservations for trailheads like Katahdin. It’s all about protecting the land and keeping it as untouched as possible, per the donor's wishes. Not to make it harder for visitors, but to preserve the experience.
That commitment to the donor’s original vision is what makes Baxter so unique. It’s not trying to be like other parks. It’s trying to stay true to something deeper, and that’s a big part of what makes it special.
Looking forward to the next video. Keep them coming.
