Snake Discovery

WE FINALLY DID IT!! We successfully produced the first-ever captive bred blue tree monitors in the state of Minnesota! This endangered species is tricky to get to hatch, and it appears as though we finally cracked the code. Welcome to the world, little ones!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: the fact that Snake Discovery keeps successfully breeding and hatching rare animals that even much larger zoos struggle to reproduce is amazing. Blue tree monitors are a perfect example. The knowledge, care, and dedication behind what you all do is incredible.

Incubator Cam was, I think, a huge success and I want to thank Ed for putting that on for us.

Not a single monitoring the monitors joke while setting up the camera. C’mon Ed!

The video starting off with "its Christmas week" while being released in June was wild

That single surgical slit was SO coo to see — and it looked like they all did that, as opposed to how snake eggs seem to be sliced to ribbons.

I’d keep that really well behaved guy. Maybe he could be a line for future babies for better handleable lizard

Oh we definitely need more of those hatching cams. Watching the one so desperately trying to get through the hole into the water, that little guy was on a mission.

The chill baby just vibing with only the tip of its tail curled implying it’s completely content is so cute

I think having the zoo was a very good decision y’all made . It’s all part of learning . If you see eggs or babies that’s just an extraordinary part of learning

You know, I grew up with bitey reptiles all over (3rd-gen NW Florida native); but that first head sticking out of the egg has got to be the most DINOSAUR modern-day moment I've ever seen, even beyond the time my Uncle Gordon found a gator in his swimming-pool. Those little guys are truly adorable! Best of luck with the new enclosures and may your little dinosaurs thrive!

Those enclosures are great. Someone saw the home made plastic tote ones and thought, "hell yeah, dial it up to 100."

This is so cool! I love that you guys got a camera set up so we could actually see them hatch! Kind of hilarious watching the one manage to get underneath to the water.
